Week 53: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy road run (solo) = 4.97 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 41.85
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 485.35

Yes, last run for the year! Tomorrow starts a new year!

Last year (year 2014), I ran a total of 690.24 miles. The year before (2013), I ran a total of 553.09 miles. I missed many days of running this year. Last year, I did the following challenge (or plan):

1.) Never go three days without running
2.) Run at least three days a week
3.) Never miss a Monday (...or Tuesday)
4.) Never give up!

I clearly did not follow that plan this year. Starting on Monday, I will start up on that plan again! I did a lot of one mile run/walk with my dog last year because I was teaching/training her how to run.  Now that my dog can run up to seven miles, I will aim for 800 miles by end of 2016. I think as long as I follow the above mentioned plan, 800 miles by the end of the year is doable.

Week 53: Day 3 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 mile
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.6 miles
I plan to do a run tomorrow morning and on Friday morning. Let's hope that I'm not lazy and I actually follow through for both days! Because I want to end and start the year with a run!

Monday, December 28, 2015

Week 53: Day 1 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.7 miles
I went out for a bike ride this morning when it was partly (half) cloudy/sunny. At first, I was cold because it really was cold out, but I was fine and warmed up after five minutes of working up a sweat. This afternoon, it got cloudier and started to drizzle/rain. I was so glad that I went out for a bike ride when it was still sunny enough. Because I will not ride in the rain. While I like to run in the cold, I think I like to ride my bike when it's warm or hot (but not humid). I think because cycling is a bit easier and less vigorous than running. I don't get that hot and grumpy when I ride a bike. I do get hot and grumpy if I run in warm weather...like I'm melting. A slight breeze feels good during a bike ride. It does not feel good when I run!

Sunday, December 27, 2015

Week 52: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.75 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 10.80
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 32.85
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 444.23
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 136.23

A few more days left until the end of the year. Then I can start the new year better!

Thursday, December 24, 2015

Week 52: Day 4 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 mile
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with four dogs = 2.5 miles
Lately, all of my runs had easy hills. I hadn't done any runs on super hilly trails that I lost quite a bit of endurance and I had to take some walk breaks during my run this morning. I plan to do some hilly training runs more regularly now to prepare myself for my next 10k race (February 21) which includes a challenging hill in the beginning!

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

Week 52: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail/road RUN (solo) = 3.75 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.5 miles
I decided to run alone without my dog this morning. It was a little misty (rain) when I headed out for my run. I'm glad that I was actually able to get out for a run when it was cloudy and wet because I would usually hibernate instead. Anyway, I was totally fine running in misty weather, but didn't know if it would turn into a drizzle or actual rain. I just didn't want to take my dog out if it was more than mist or drizzle.

Thursday, December 17, 2015

Week 51: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.2 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
Yesterday morning was so cold. This morning was less cold. I was kinda disappointed that I didn't get a run in yesterday instead using today as a rest day. Oh well.

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Week 51: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2 miles
Yay for cold mornings. That is all.

Sunday, December 13, 2015

Week 50: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy WALK with MY dogs (at home) = 2.2 miles
  • easy WALK with rescue dogs (Priceless Pets Rescue) = 3.2 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 6.95
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 14.65
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 411.38
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 103.38

I've basically stopped doing these walks with rescue dogs since I did the two 10k races in the same weekend in October. Mainly because I was lazy, didn't want to drive and wanted to sleep in (the walks started at 8:45am). It's hard to do a run and the rescue dog walks in the same morning because it's still dark until 6:45am. I don't like running in the dark for a lot of reasons...like for my own safety (cars can't see me, a criminal lurking in the dark, I'm clumsy and will trip on something I can't see...) and for my dog's safety (my dog is small and will unintentionally attract coyotes)....and darkness also makes me want to sleep anyway. I have to wait a few more months before I can do a run and the rescue dog walk in the same morning.

Saturday, December 12, 2015

Week 50: Day 6 - 2015

  • easy trail/road RUN with one dog = 3.75 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
Cold mornings are back! But I'm still being lazy and wanting to sleep a lot. Boo.

Tuesday, December 8, 2015

Week 50: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
It was so warm this morning and I didn't want to run! I am hoping that it was the weather and not lack of motivation. It's December now...what happened to the cold mornings that we were getting??

Monday, December 7, 2015

Week 50: Day 1 - 2015

  • bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.6 miles
I have a pet peeve...when some people assume that I quit running because they don't see me running for a few days or weeks. Maybe I'm taking a break. Maybe I'm running less days during the week. Maybe I'm running at a different time of the day. Here is a little known fact about me: I have liked running since I was 11 years old and I have been running (on and off) since then. Some people only notice that I run with my dog. I have been running longer than my dog has been alive and my dog has only been running for one year and ten months. My dog is 3 1/2 years old and I did my first half marathon in 2007. I've been running up and down the same area since 1996. It's one thing if some people lived in the same area less than two years, but for the other people who lived in the area longer than two years, what have they been looking at if they didn't know that I had been running on the same streets for ten or fifteen years? If I had been running since I was 11 years old, why would I be quitting now? Only lazy people who don't exercise at all would assume that I'm a quitter.

Saturday, December 5, 2015

Week 49: Day 6 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN (solo) = 4.5 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.1 miles
My regularly running schedule will resume next Tuesday! I made an exercise planner for myself. I stopped using it after October. I have to start using it again because apparently, writing down my runs whether they are for fun or for training, it helps me stay on track.

The last two or four runs that I did was 3.2 miles each. I had mild shin splints during the last one mile of my run today. It went away when my run was over. It was a good thing I didn't do a longer run because I was really thinking about doing a five or six mile run.

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Week 49: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
So far, I feel ok running. I hope I feel ok running until the end/start of the year.

Saturday, November 28, 2015

Week 48: Day 6 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN (solo) = 4.3 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.6 miles

Saturdays are normally my rest days and Sundays are my run days, but I decided to run this morning instead because I plan to do a volunteer group walk (with rescue dogs) tomorrow morning. The pet rescue shelter that I go volunteer at has group walks with the rescue dogs every Sunday morning at 8:45am. I'd like to think I can make it to every group walks, but I'm not sure how long I can keep it up since I like to sleep in (rest day) on Saturday mornings. There aren't that many days that I get to sleep in without sacrificing my running schedule.

Also, while I have looked up some Christmas/New Year's 10k races, I'm not 100% if I will sign up. I found a race on Christmas Day and on New Year's Eve (morning). But both events have a 5k, 10k, 15k and a half marathon. I want to do the half marathon because well...GO BIG or GO HOME! But at the rate that I'm going for running, I'm way under trained for the half and the 15k.

Friday, November 27, 2015

Week 48: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.35 miles
I didn't do a run in a week and a half. Low motivation + laziness has kicked in. Also, I needed to catch up on sleep. When I go for a run, I'm on five hours of sleep and I can never go back to sleep for a nap after my run. I should probably stop staying up so late listening to the radio if I want to be asleep by 10pm! Maybe I should have signed up for a turkey trot.

When I did my run this morning, I still didn't feel like running and had to take a few walk breaks. Maybe I should look for any holiday/Christmas 10k races.

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Week 47: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.25 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
I think I'm losing motivation to run. I don't know why because I did take a break for a week after my two 10k races over two weeks ago. I generally don't take walk breaks during a short, easy run, but I took a short walk break during my easy run this morning. I was going to run tomorrow morning, but I will take a rest day. I hope I feel better to run again on Thursday.

Monday, November 16, 2015

Week 47: Day 1 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 2.7 miles
Finally got in a bike ride today and it felt nice. Now I need to find the motivation to keep riding regularly every week like I can for running.

Sunday, November 15, 2015

Week 46: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail/road RUN (solo) = 6 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.25 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 17.75
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 24.25
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 375.98
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 77.98

I did my run without my dog this morning. I just felt like running solo for no reason. I think my dog needs a rest sometimes anyway and doesn't need to run with me everytime.

Friday, November 13, 2015

Week 46: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail/road RUN with one dog = 4.75 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.35 miles
  • easy WALK with several rescue dogs (Priceless Pets) = 3.7 miles
  • easy WALK to Panera Bread (for knitting group) = 3.2 miles roundtrip
I did a lot of walking today! I generally don't like to walk for exercise, but when it involves a purpose like walking dogs (dogs need exercise too) or to meet someone somewhere, I'll go for a walk. A purpose like that is primary reason. General exercise is secondary reason.

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Week 46: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.75 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.5 miles
I miss having cold mornings, but where were they last month when I had my two 10k runs??!!

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Week 46: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.25 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.5 miles
I checked the weather forecast over the weekend. It had rain for yesterday evening and this morning. We didn't have any rain yesterday and I was glad that it was clear and sunny this morning. While I was glad that I didn't have to miss a run because of rain, we still need rain. After my run, it got very windy. It was also very dry (as in opposite of humidity) and the wind didn't help at all. When I touch a person (or dog, cat, living being) and metal things like my car door, I get an electric shock. My face feels very dry for several hours even though I put lotion on it. So far, my hair hasn't been static-y or clingy. I like cold weather, but I don't like windy or dry conditions. We really need rain so I don't get electric shock or static or a dry face.

Saturday, November 7, 2015

Week 42: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN (solo) = 4.48 miles, time = 51:45. pace @ 11:33
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.5 miles
Since I was lazy and didn't do a run yesterday, I decided to do one this morning. Laziness sucks and I don't know I'm being lazy when it is so nice and cold/cool in the mornings now. Because now that it's cooler in the mornings, I seem to be running a little faster. If I can lose some weight, I can go back to the pace that I used to have (9:45 mpm).

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Week 42: Day 3 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 mile
    • warm up (jog/walk) = 1.1 mile
    • cool down (jog/walk) = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.55 miles
This morning was so nice and COLD (although I would prefer colder)! I love it! But whatever happen to cold mornings last month???

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Week 42: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.25 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.25 miles
Cold mornings are finally here! I love cold mornings and I love running in them...you will never hear me complain about them! I'm totally in my element now. Although I prefer 37 or 39 degrees, I'll take 50-something degrees too.

Sunday, November 1, 2015

Week 41: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.25 miles
  • hiking with meetup group = 7 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 3.3
Total Running Monthly (October) Mileage: 62.89
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 351.73
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 53.73

I had plan to run four times this week. Instead, I only did one run. I was also going to do a run this morning, but decided at the last minute (last night) to do a hike with a group. I don't hike as often as I'd like, but I like the hike leader. I'm a little sore and I'm surprised that I'm not more sore considering that the last time that I hiked was a year ago. I'm happy for any improvements though!

I should be back on my regularly running schedule by Tuesday.

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Week 41: Day 3 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 mile
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.5 miles
I debated if I was going to take a break for a whole week until Sunday or run a few (four) times this week. I had also planned to run yesterday if I did decide to run. I didn't do a run yesterday because laziness kicked in. I wasn't going to run today, but I did anyway. It felt nice and surprisingly I wasn't unmotivated. I haven't decided if I am going to run tomorrow morning or take a rest day, but I think I'll decide that in the morning.

Sunday, October 25, 2015

Week 40: Day 7 - 2015

  • Halloween Run = 6.22 miles, time = 1:12:00, pace @ 11:35
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.5 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 20.74 miles
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 59.59
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 348.43
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 50.34

It wasn't exactly my ideal weather, but it was cooler this morning compared to yesterday. Yesterday's run was on a relatively flat course, but the weather definitely affected me because my overall finish time was roughly about 30 seconds faster than today's finish time. Today's course had a challenging hill (challenging enough, but not a "mountain" compared to what I train on). My disappointment from today was that no one got a finisher's medal. At the finish line, I looked around to see if other runners got one because I thought I missed the volunteers who would have passed them out. I saw no medals anywhere. When I did the race in 2012, I got a finisher's medal. I don't know what happened to that. Also, I'm not sure if I will do the same Halloween Run in La Puente again in the future. I didn't like the idea that I had to pay $5 to pick up my race packet on the day of the event. I might do the Race For The Rescues event again.

Saturday, October 24, 2015

Week 40: Day 6 - 2015

  • Race For The Rescues RUN with one dog = 10k (6.2 miles); time = 1:11:23; pace @ 11:19
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1 mile
I knew that I wouldn't enjoy the weather when the race started at 8:30am. It was so warm! I don't know why they couldn't start at 8am instead although it wasn't exactly that much better by that time either. It was so nice and cool at 7am! I think it was harder on my dog, Jubee, because she was panting a lot. Especially in the car on the way home. I'm sorry, Jubee! You can have a rest day tomorrow and Monday!

Anyway, the course from today's race was relatively flat with some slow, gentle inclines. Also, I did better on my overall time and overall pace. I think I could have been a little better if my dog didn't stop for a bathroom break? I also think that I could have done better if it was cooler.

Tomorrow, I do a Halloween 10k Run. I will update tomorrow.

Friday, October 23, 2015

Week 40: Day 5 - 2015

  • trail RUN (solo) = 5 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.3 miles
My last training run for awhile! My races are tomorrow morning and Sunday morning, and I feel ready! I went for a run at the Chino Hills State Park this morning, but I didn't bring my dog with me because I didn't know if dogs were allowed since they told me that dogs weren't when I came here for a run last year...even though it was technically closed. Anyway, the state (or city?) "remodeled" the park and added a paved road for vehicle traffic. There was a dirt road that I was used to seeing off to the side of the paved road, but I decided to try out the paved road first to see how it was. I think I like the trail/dirt road better. It seemed shorter and easier. However, when I asked the park ranger if dogs were allowed, he recommended that dogs stayed on the main paved road. Going "off road" with a dog would attract coyotes, cougars and bobcats...even though that would happen rarely. Also, there would be a lot thorns and things that could hurt dogs' feet.

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Week 40: Day 2 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 miles
    • warm up = 1.1 miles
    • cool down = 1.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1.9 miles
I'm debating if I want to do one more training run (preferably tomorrow morning if I do get a run in). I'm not 100% sure yet...or just take the rest of the week off from running and wait for my two 10K runs for the weekend. I'll have a better idea in the morning if I want to run or not.

Sunday, October 18, 2015

Week 39: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail/road RUN with one dog = 6.7
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.3 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 15.7
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 38.85
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 327.69
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 29.6

It was overcast this morning when I went out for a run. While it wasn't exactly my ideal running weather, it was better than hot/humid and sunny. I almost didn't make it out of bed because I wanted to sleep in, being that it was overcast, but I made it out. During the last two miles of my run, I mentally checked out. I didn't want to run anymore. Of course, I could have called someone at home to pick me up, but I didn't want to do that. So I had no other choice but to finish my run even though I didn't want to. I am ready for a mental break from running!

Thursday, October 15, 2015

Week 39: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 5.7 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.2 miles
I think I'm basically ready for my two 10k races. I have a week and a half left of training. Maybe I'm just tired and need more sleep which is why I'm feeling the need for training to be over (I really do need more sleep, but I can't get more when I need it!). Maybe the heat is driving me crazy too.

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Week 39: Day 2 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 miles
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.1 miles
Running in warm temperatures make it hard for me to find enough motivation for a run. I wasn't really interested in running this morning because it was so warm. Why does it feel like summer in October when summer has been officially over last month? I don't like summer and I hate hot/warm weather.

Sunday, October 11, 2015

Week 38: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy WALK with MY dogs (home) = 2 miles
  • easy WALK with rescue/shelter dog (Priceless Pets Rescue) = 3.1 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 13.9
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 23.15
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 311.99
Total Running Shoe Mileage:  13.9

Today was the Long Beach Marathon. I do the half marathon once in awhile. I am glad that I didn't sign up for it this year because it had been awfully warm/hot this weekend. The weather also had been ridiculous during these last few months with rain.

I did a "hike" with the animal rescue group this morning and I had one of the rescue dogs. I was worried that it would get very warm during the walk and warmer when we finished at 10:30am. It was pretty warm, but not intolerable. Maybe intolerable for the dogs since they are the ones wearing "coats and sweaters", but they did well for the weather. After the walk, I participated in the dog handling socialization class with the same rescue group...I had a rescue dog (different one) for that as well. I was concerned about the heat, but it was tolerable enough (maybe not for the dogs).

Saturday, October 10, 2015

Week 38: Day 6 - 2015

  • easy trail/road RUN with one dog = 6 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
Did you know that you could use a tennis ball or golf ball to massage the bottoms of your feet? It really works. This also applies for people who have plantar fasciitis. I don't have plantar fasciitis, but I do need a foot massage. I have paid someone to give me a foot massage, but it doesn't seem to work or help.

Friday, October 9, 2015

Week 38: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.6 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
I think I'm fine, motivation-wise, but laziness is definitely kicking in. I know that it's laziness because once I get out and start running, I feel fine. It's getting started that's the hardest part.

Tuesday, October 6, 2015

Week 38: Day 2 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 mile
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
I started running in a new pair of shoes today. It had to be done, but my feet felt good in them. I think I will do just fine wearing them for the rest of my training.

Saturday, October 3, 2015

Week 37: Day 6 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 5.15 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
I have a shoe dilemma now. My feet aches when I run in my current pair of shoes and I know that wearing a new pair of shoes will simply fix this problem. They have not reached 300 miles yet, however, they are seven months old, going on eight months. I had a similar problem before, but that pair did reach 500 miles.

While I know that just wearing new running shoes will help my feet feel better, I'm in the middle of training for two 10k runs (both are on the same weekend) and they are in three weeks. I'm not sure if it is wise to start wearing new shoes when I'm in the middle of training, however, I'm not putting in that many miles in per week.

Friday, October 2, 2015

Week 37: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.6 miles
I'm so ready for this summer-like weather to be over with. It's fall, why does is it still hot and why does it feel like summer?

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Week 37: Day 2 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 miles
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
After my run this morning, I went out and got an Enduracool towel thing. Since we are still getting warm temperatures and I get hot really easily, this would come in handy on my runs and bike rides. I'll test it out on Thursday for my next bike ride.

Sunday, September 27, 2015

Week 36: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy walk with MY dogs = 2.3 miles
  • easy walk with shelter dog (Priceless Pet Rescue) = 2.5 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 10.65
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 25.65
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 285.54
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 254.85

Why is it still hot? Summer is over and I'm melting!!!

Saturday, September 26, 2015

Week 36: Day 6 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.25 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
I generally don't run on Saturday mornings, but I'm "volunteering" tomorrow morning with the Priceless Pet Rescue where a group of people meet up and walk the rescue/shelter dogs (or they can bring their own dogs). Next weekend, I'm doing the same thing...run Saturday morning and then "volunteer" walk on Sunday morning. After that, if I will continue with the volunteer walk. I got a new job which starts during the first full week of October. On the first day on the job is when I will be getting my work schedule. I hope I get to work in the afternoons so I can continue running in the morning. I am so a morning runner. Unless I get a run in, I am not a morning person. Running first thing in the morning helps me wake up and start the day. (I've come to realize at my last job, that if I show up to work at 8am or 9am, I'm still sleeping and non-functional...if I run at 6am, I am wide awake!)

Friday, September 25, 2015

Week 36: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy walk with dogs = 2.6 miles
  • easy bike ride = 7.35 miles
I found a holiday/Christmas half marathon or 10 mile race that I was interested in doing, both are on the same day and both are in Huntington Beach. This year, they would be on December 26. I thought about doing either one. I decided to wait until next year to do a half marathon. With my current training schedule for the 10k, it won't work and I'll be undertrained. So, maybe next year, I will do a holiday half marathon....but it will be between the Huntington Beach one (45 mile commute, more gas and time to get ready, but with a $35 race fee)....or the Pomona one (7 to 10 mile commute, less gas usage and cost, a little more sleep, but with an $80 race fee for early bird). Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Week 36: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.1 miles
Mornings are starting to feel cooler, but the temperature is still pretty warm during the daytime. Can't wait for the winter months when it's really cold in the mornings.

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Week 36: Day 2 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 mile
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
First week of training with first training run done.

Monday, September 21, 2015

Week 36: Day 1 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 2.6 miles
It's nice to get a bike ride in for a day. I just need to keep telling myself to stop being lazy. The heat wave ended this past weekend. I hope that was the end of the heat wave until next summer. Supposedly we will be getting more rain this year. I hope it doesn't affect any of my training and athletic endurance races! (I will not ride in the rain.)

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Week 35: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.5 miles
We had some nice weather today and I enjoyed it during my bike ride. Now let's hope that I make cycling a regular weekly habit until mid-February. On the other hand, it will get hot in the next days and I don't look forward to that.

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Week 35: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
After figuring out my long runs, I decided to "pre-train" this week and then I'll take it more seriously next week. It was a good thing that this week was "pre-training".

My original plan was to run yesterday, but it rained all morning. By the time, it stopped and I was sorta motivated to run, it was humid, muggy and sunny. I also had planned to run on a hilly trail, but I think it is covered in mud from the rain. I don't like running in mud. I went running today on an easy route.

Thursday, September 10, 2015

Week 34: Day 4 - 2015

  • hilly trail RUN with one dog = 1.1 miles
    • warm up = 1.1 mile
    • cool down = 1.1 mile
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.45 miles
After figuring out my "long" runs for my training plan/schedule, I decided to take it easy this week. I think I can handle training for five weeks. Although I am taking it easy this week, I still wanted to get started on my hill training. I know for sure that the Halloween 10K run has a hill. The hills that I run on are actually mountains compared to that hill, so I need to train on my mountains so that hill on the course isn't so bad.

Friday, September 4, 2015

Week 33: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
Can't wait for next week, so I can start training for my two 10k runs/races. I hope that by going into training mode, my running motivation will be better.

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Week 33: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.5 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
I decided to still run this week, but taking it super easy. On the other hand, I have to make myself get into the habit of going cycling at least once a week.

Sunday, August 30, 2015

Week 32: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 7.74
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 22.87
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 259.89
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 209.20

I'm now officially running the La Puente Halloween 10K race which will be on Sunday, October 25th. It's the day after my Race For The Rescues 10K race. Since they are both during the same weekend, I don't have to do any extra running or training and can treat them like I'm training for ONE race. I start training immediately after next weekend and I need to figure out a plan/schedule. I have a week to figure this out. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out if I should take a few more rest/non-running days and then start up again next Sunday. Or do some super easy runs not more than three miles. I have tomorrow as a rest day, so I have a day to think about what to do.

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Week 32: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.64 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
For some reason, I had no motivation and I struggled to run this morning. While there was one very short challenging hill, that was .1 in distance and it was in the middle (halfway point) of the run. The rest of the run had very easy hills that I've done many times before. I took a few short walk breaks in the first two miles because I couldn't get into running. Also, while I did get a runner's high after two miles, it wasn't as good or fun as it was in previous runs. I took a whole week off from running two weeks ago, so I don't know why I'm losing motivation now.

Sunday, August 23, 2015

Week 31: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 4.78 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
The sun was actually out this morning, so I didn't feel as lazy as before. I don't like humid, warm/hot weather, but I like sun when I'm out for a run!

Friday, August 21, 2015

Week 31: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.5 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
I really canNOT wait for summer to be over! Is it over yet? Did September come and go yet?

Thursday, August 20, 2015

Week 31: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN (solo) = 2.85 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.3 miles
Why can't mornings here just be sunny? I don't care about the weather and temperature. But when it's overcast in the morning, it's hard for me to get out of bed. It makes me lazy and want to sleep in. I almost didn't want to run at all today. The sun finally came out at 10:30am which was when I finally got out for a run. It was hard and I was miserable because it was so hot. It was hot, but not humid. I can deal with humid and warm weather at 6am because the sun is just "waking up" and isn't as strong yet. I didn't run with my dog today because it was already pretty warm and I didn't want my dog to overheat. I was hot for the both of us. Also, I had planned to do a 3.2 mile run, but it got cut short because part of my run was blocked by a crew working in the trees. I didn't want them stopping for two minutes (my run was an out and back, so I would have to pass by them twice in each direction...one minute to pass by the first time and one minute to pass by the second time) for me to pass before continuing to work. They could afford to wait two minutes for me to pass before cutting down some more branches in the trees, but they were also trying to clear up the branches from the sidewalk. and there were a lot of big branches to move. Maybe it was a good thing that I cut my run short a little bit. I wanted to get out of the sun and heat so badly anyway.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Week 31: Day 2 - 2015

  • challenging hilly trail RUN (solo) = 3 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
I went on a run at a local junior college this morning...the one where they let their cattle have free range to roam around on the trails and hillside. It would have been nice to run with my dog there, but I didn't want me and my dog really freaking out because there was a cow taking a stroll on a trail path. I saw some cattle, but they were really off to the side of the trail. I didn't get out for a run early enough (at 6am because it was light enough), but it was overcast and I thought the clouds would burn off after I finished my run. I should have stuck to my 6am schedule. The sun came out halfway through my run and I was so hot, sweaty and uncomfortable.

My hair is shorter now. I had a trim/cut with layers yesterday and it was much needed. Now my hair won't stick to my sweaty arms and shoulders, and won't mangle/tangle up in knots from my hot mess.

Sunday, August 16, 2015

Week 30: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.5 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs: 2.3 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 4.5
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 25.24
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 237.02
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 186.33

Except for walking all week, today was the only real work out that I did. I wasn't sure if it was laziness or true need for a break, so I did practically nothing all week. Two miles into my run this morning, I was happy to run again.

Sunday, August 9, 2015

Week 29: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.15 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 15.40
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 19.74
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 233.52
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 181.83

I debated if I wanted to do a short run or skip it. But I only had time to do a short run of two miles this morning because I was meeting a photography group to do some street photos of Downtown Los Angeles.  I felt better having done a run. I was actually feeling lazy and wanted to go back to sleep, but I think if I skipped the run, I'd be lazier and it would be harder for me to get ready for my photography group. I'm also going to say that all the walking that we did for the group counted towards my exercise for the day. While we actually didn't cover that much distance, I'm not exactly sure how many miles we did do. Maybe two miles? We were out for a few hours, but we stopped a lot to take photos of something. We also didn't know that there would be a parade in town, so we waited around for that to finally start.

Saturday, August 8, 2015

Week 29: Day 6 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 4.6 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.8 miles
I'm sorta making up for the fact that I didn't run on Wednesday or Thursday. I'm also not sure if I will get a run in tomorrow morning. If I do, it will be a two mile run because that is all I will have time for before heading out to Downtown L.A. (I have to be there around 9am and it takes about 45 minutes including parking).

I'm also trying to get myself in the habit of stretching after each of my run. Also...I'm doing upper body strength twice a week (preferably Tuesday and Friday after my runs), but I'm only doing elevated push ups (feet elevated) and chair dips. I stopped stretching and doing upper body (dips and push ups) for a long time. I'm not as flexible as I used to be and I also lost a lot of upper body strength. Right now, I can barely do five chair dips and five elevated push ups. I used to be able to do regular push ups and going really low or hold in the down position without touching the floor. I also used to be able to do a front split...

Week 29: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.45 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
So lazy the last few days. I felt better running this morning.

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

Week 29: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
I don't remember if I've mentioned this. I will be doing a 10K run with my dog on October 24, 2015 in Pasadena, CA for Race For The Rescues. We (or mostly I) will be raising money to help support the benefiting non-profit, no-kill rescue groups and animal welfare organizations that work year-round to make our world a kinder place.

Sunday, August 2, 2015

Week 28: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.34 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.2 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 15.47
Total Running Monthly (July) Mileage: 41.58
Total Running Monthly (August) Mileage: 4.34
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 213.78
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 166.43

I still don't like summer and I still hate hot/warm weather. However, I'm glad and I should be happy that it has been overcast and a tiny bit cooler without the humidity in the morning these days lately.

Friday, July 31, 2015

Week 28: Day 5 - 2015

  • challenging trail RUN with one dog = 2.73 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
I went running on a cross country course at a local junior college this morning. The course was on a challenging hilly trail. After weeks of wanting to come on campus to run the cross country course, I finally stopped being lazy and had some motivation to get in the car and drive to a local park. The park was 1/2 miles from the course on campus and I used that short distance as a warm up before doing the trail run. I knew that there would be some cattle on the course since they had free range to roam around as long as there was grass/food for them to eat. However, I was hoping that they would be grazing on the hillside next to the trail...instead, they were walking/roaming around directly on the trail towards the end of my run. Now, if I was running alone, I would be slightly be afraid of them. Slightly afraid because I didn't want to do a sudden move that would cause them to stampede on me, but at the same time, I knew that I would be ok as long as I ran calmly and didn't bother them. I was running with my dog today and my dog was very afraid of them! I was also afraid of them because I didn't know if they were scared of dogs and I didn't want them to stampede on us! I think I will run on this trail without my dog next time.

Thursday, July 30, 2015

Week 28: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.6 miles
Didn't want to run, but made myself go anyway. Felt better afterwards.

Tuesday, July 28, 2015

Week 28: Day 2 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 4.2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.7 miles
I almost did not want to go for a run this morning. Laziness was kicking in..it also didn't help that my dog wanted to hang out in my bed, staring at me with her cute puppy dog eyes. Damn you, dog! But I got out and did my run! I did a route that I hadn't done in awhile and it had some semi-challenging hills. I wasn't used to the hills that were more than difficult than easy, so I had to walk a bit. I guess I should start running on hills again.

Sunday, July 26, 2015

Week 27: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.65 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 10.54
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 30.31
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 198.31
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 150.96

I had planned to get out for a run at 5:45am. At that time, it wasn't completely daylight, but enough light to see where I was going. And because it would be cooler at that time. I took my dogs out for a walk first. Then when I was getting ready to head out for a run, my running buddy-dog went straight for my room because she wanted to hang out there and sleep in my bed. She does this everytime I try to get ready for a run and it makes it harder for me to find the motivation to get a run done because I want to go back to bed. I did get a run out today, but it was at 6:30am. Luckily, it wasn't humid so I tolerated the 60-something degrees temperature.

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Week 27: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.65 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
My legs are sore from the run this morning. I'm confused by this and I don't know why. My run has some very easy hills that I'm used to being on. I didn't put in any extra effort in my run and I didn't run faster even though I felt like I was on a runner's high.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Week 27: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.24 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
I bought a pair of running shorts from a local REI store yesterday because I needed a new pair. Awesomeness. I didn't feel faster, but I felt more motivated to run this morning and I was able to run non-stop/continuously except at an intersection with a traffic/red light. Also, sleep is very helpful and nice to have...

Friday, July 17, 2015

Week 26: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy bike ride - 7.43 miles
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.65 miles
I'm too lazy to get a run in so I went for a ride instead.

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Week 26: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.17 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
I have to stop being lazy, running a little later in the morning during the summer. While I think the weather is a part of why I generally didn't want to run, I don't think it was the entire reason. I really felt like I had no motivation to run and I was dragging my feet along. I wasn't shuffling along, but it felt almost like that and I had a hard time picking up my feet. I only did two runs (including today) in ten days. How can I be out of motivation??

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Week 26: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.6 miles
  • easy bike ride = 7.4 miles
I got out a bike ride today because I was too lazy to do it yesterday and I was too lazy to do a run this morning.

Sunday, July 12, 2015

Week 25: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 2.1
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 15.00
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 183.00
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 135.65

I don't understand the weather that we are getting. Before last weekend, we were getting ridiculously outrageous hot and humid weather. All of this week including last weekend, the mornings were overcast and the daytime has been cooler and less humid compared to before. I shouldn't be complaining that mornings were overcast and cooler, but it also made me lazy and wanting to sleep in. Taking a nap in the afternoon was easier and nicer since I wouldn't wake up in a pool of sweat on my bed.

Sunday, July 5, 2015

Week 24: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.17 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.7 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 12.90
Total Running Monthly (JUNE) Mileage: 15.64
Total Running Monthly (JULY) Mileage: 9.68
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 180.90
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 134.55

My total mileage for June sucks. It didn't help that my motivation wasn't all that great and I had a bad case of laziness because of June Gloom plus crazy hot weather.

Anyway, I need to find a way to catch up on my sleep because I don't sleep that much at night (five to six hours). Now I'm feeling tired and wanting to sleep in more when I know I should be out doing a run. By the time I get back from my run, I'm too wide awake to go back to sleep for a nap.

Friday, July 3, 2015

Week 24: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.8 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
Is summer over yet? Did I mention that it would be a very long three months of summer? I must think happy thoughts....it's not hot all year long and October is ALMOST here!

Thursday, July 2, 2015

Week 24: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.7 miles
I am really trying hard to get back into the habit of riding my bike on a regular basis (at minimum once a week, preferably twice a week). I want to get back my leg strength for cycling again!

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Week 24: Day 3 - 2015

  • hill trail RUN with one dog = 2.71 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.5 miles
I decided to go for a run at a local junior college and use their cross country course. I hadn't been here in a long while that I wasn't expecting to see any cattle roaming around on the hills and trails. The school moved the herd to a different part of campus. I don't know what they were doing with the cattle herd, but I didn't see them for a really long time. While I think they are cute from a distance or behind a fence, I'm a little scared of them. There is usually a baby in the herd. I'm always afraid of doing some weird move around them that they would get upset or provoked enough to start a stampede. They can't run that  fast, but they can still run faster than me, they are certainly stronger (they're several hundreds of pounds heavier than I am) and I don't want to get run over! As long as they don't block the trail, I'm ok and I'll just keep running along.

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Week 24: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.22 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.7 miles
Is summer over yet?!?! Grrr!

Monday, June 29, 2015

Week 24: Day 1 - 2015

  • bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
I hadn't done a bike ride in awhile. I've lost a lot of leg strength because of that. I did my usual ride which had an "easy" hill in the first two miles of the ride, but that hill was harder than it used to be because I hadn't been riding regularly. I need to get back on the bike and ride again.

Sunday, June 28, 2015

Week 23: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 6.2
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 13.42
Total Running Yearly Monthly Mileage: 168
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 121.65

I really did not enjoy the weather this morning. It's going to be a very long three months of summer plus one extra month (October) with warm/hot weather. I'm most likely going to complain about the weather everyday or every week until it finally starts to feel cooler.

Tuesday, June 23, 2015

Week 23: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
I hadn't done a run in over a week...out of laziness. I didn't like the weather, but I felt better running this morning than before.

Sunday, June 14, 2015

Week 21: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 4.22
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 7.22
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 161.8
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 115.45

I don't know what is wrong with me. I had no motivation to run this morning. I was going to do a two mile run, but felt a little better after 3/4 mile into the run that I decided to do a three mile run. By mile two, I was grumpy again. Sure, it was a bit warm and humid this morning, but I'm not sure if the weather is entirely at fault. I don't know why I'm having such low motivation. I took so much time off from running, so I should have felt more motivated and enthusiastic about running again. Maybe I'm bored and need to change scenery? I don't know.

Thursday, June 11, 2015

Week 21: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.2 miles
  • karate class = 1 hour
    • easy walk to class = 1 mile
    • easy walk after class = 1 mile
I haven't been in karate class in two years. Running and karate are two completely different work out and I'm out of shape for karate. I was out of breath, and not as flexible or fast as I used to be. My calves are sore now. Haha. If I try, I can probably do a six mile run tomorrow. I may be a little bit sore, but I'll mostly be just fine.

Tuesday, June 9, 2015

Week 21: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.12 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.8 miles
While I was at the library, someone noticed that I was knitting and asked about it. She was at the library with one of her kids. She got some books for another kid who happened to be in karate class. She mentioned the type of class which happened to be the class that I used to go to. I told her the teacher's name to which she said "Oh yeah!". I hadn't gone to karate class in two years. Partly because of a conflicting work schedule. Mainly because I was feeling a bit resentful towards some parents who enrolled their kids in the class for the things that they said or did or didn't say or do and I felt jaded since then. Perhaps I was being a bit passive aggressive by not saying anything and not going to class anymore. I don't know. I suppose I should start going to karate class again now that I have time...until I have a conflicting work schedule again.

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

Week 20: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
I'm still suffering from a bad case of no motivation. I think I need to take a break from running for a whole week (seven days), maybe more, but definitely not less than seven days. I just couldn't get into it. Maybe the warm weather has something to do with it, but I'm not sure about that. So I'm going to go on some bike rides instead while I'm on break from running.

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Week 19: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.12 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.1 miles
I now have a bad case of no motivation. I'm very sure that it's not laziness. I thought I was fine because I did take a four day break from running (due to some work drama) over the weekend. I originally wanted to do a four mile run this morning, but changed my mind and did a two mile run instead. Now that my dog can run three or more miles, doing anything shorter than three miles is only when I'm very unmotivated. I also did an easy run. I rarely ever walk during an easy run unless I'm injured or unmotivated. My legs felt heavy and I also felt like I was dragging my feet along. I'll take a break from running for the next few days and I'll try again on Sunday morning.

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Week 19: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.37 miles
Because of some work drama, I didn't do a run over the weekend....

Anyway, I didn't feel like running today, but I went anyway.

Thursday, May 21, 2015

Week 18: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.1 miles, time = 48:22, pace @ 11:48
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.1 miles

I've signed up to do a 10k run for Race For The Rescues on Saturday, October 24, 2015 in Pasadena, CA and this event will support local non-profit animal welfare organizations that annually save the lives of thousands of dogs, cats and horses. I've created a charity page. If you are in a generous mood, please visit my charity page to make a donation. Any amount, big or small, is greatly appreciated!

In other news, this is unofficial because the website is not updated yet. I will probably do the Halloween 10k run in La Puente, CA on Sunday, October 25, 2015. I think I will do ok on both races because they are only a 10k and there is no extra training time since they are on the same weekend!

Week 18: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.47 miles, time = 53:19, pace @ 11:56
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
I almost didn't want to go for a run because I wanted to sleep in instead. I'm glad that I did the run anyway and felt better afterwards.

Sunday, May 17, 2015

Week 17: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 4.4 miles, time = 52:21, pace @ 11:54
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.7 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 11.39
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 52.57
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 140.79
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 94.44

I had wanted to run four days a week. I have to remind myself to take advantage of the weather because it has been unusually cooler in the mornings and it makes for great running weather. Summer is around the corner. I know that I will complain everyday about the heat and how uncomfortable I am in it. I vaguely remember that the weather was the same for May last year. I don't really remember if our June was on the cooler side.

Thursday, May 14, 2015

Week 17: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy trail/road RUN with one dog = 3.24 miles, 39:10, pace @ 12:05
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2 miles
I went running this morning and it was just gloomy and overcast. It started raining right after I got to work. I was glad that the rain waited for me to get to work first. I had wanted it to rain at work at not during my run!

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Week 17: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.75 miles, time = 44:02, pace @ 11:45
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.4 miles
After last Tuesday, I got lazy and didn't run. Thanks to the weather, even though it was nice weather to run in. The weather also made me lazy and want to sleep more.

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

Week 16: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 4.3 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1.7 miles
June Gloom in May?? It's nice and not nice at the same time. It's easier to run in, but also makes me lazier.

Sunday, May 3, 2015

Week 15: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.2 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 8.26
Total Running Monthly (April) Mileage: 36.88
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 125.10
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 78.75

I didn't do a run today out of laziness and lack of motivation. However, I mainly wanted to update my mileage. I will for sure get back into the habit of running regularly on Tuesday.

Friday, May 1, 2015

Week 15: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.41 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
I had wanted to run this morning, but lazing kicked in and I didn't want to run anymore. I went for a bike ride instead, so not too lazy. I wanted to go back to sleep after my ride, but I couldn't. I've also finally got in the habit of writing down my work schedule in a calendar because I think this will help me stay on schedule and not skip a work out or do whatever I feel like out of laziness.

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Week 15: Day 4 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 4.6 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.6 miles
I made myself go to bed early (10:30 pm) last night without distractions because I could. I woke up feeling ready and happy to run. This made me feel nice. Now let's try that again tonight!

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

Week 15: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.66 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
I felt better running this morning....

Sunday, April 26, 2015

Week 14: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 3.24 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 11.74
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 28.62
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 116.84
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 70.49

I felt a little bit better running this morning. Hopefully I will feel better about running on Tuesday morning.

Friday, April 24, 2015

Week 14: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.10 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.7 miles
I'm glad that I chose to run this morning instead of going on a bike ride. One of the streets that I normally ride on had some road work being done on where all traffic lanes were closed except for the bike lane and traffic were forced to drive in the bike lane, even though it was a short distance. I didn't want to share the bike lane with traffic.

In the meantime, I'm having a bad case of laziness and no motivation which was why I did a two mile run instead of running something longer.

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Week 14: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.15 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.6 miles
I wanted to run and I didn't want to at the same time. I wanted to do a four mile run today, but I was having a bad case of laziness. By the time I finally went out, it was already 9:45am which was considered late for me to get out for a run. It was a good thing that it was overcast still even though it was a bit warm.

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

Week 14: Day 2 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 4.25 miles, time = 50:28, pace @ 11:52
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1.6 miles
I almost didn't want to run this morning because it was overcast and this kind of weather made me want to sleep in. But I knew that if I got a run in, I would feel better. Also, going for a run would make me wake up for work because I had to work an "early" shift (starting at 12 noon).

Sunday, April 19, 2015

Week 13: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.43 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.6 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 12.03
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 16.88
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 105.10
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 59.75

Another run done. I'm feeling better about running now. Let's hope that I can keep that up.

Friday, April 17, 2015

Week 13: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.35 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 2.6 miles
I don't know why I'm so scared of the weather/temperature when I go out for a bike ride. It wasn't as bad as I thought. It was 80-something degrees when I went out, but it wasn't humid. I was going to go out for a ride at 6am, but I couldn't being on three hours of sleep.

Thursday, April 16, 2015

Week 13: Day 4 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 4.4 miles, time - 51:30, pace @ 11:57
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.4 miles
Oops, I forgot to update on Tuesday. On Tuesday, I did a 3.2 mile run with my dog. I felt ok running on Tuesday morning. I felt a little more rest and caught on sleep this morning, but sorta didn't enjoy the weather. I guess it's about that time when mornings are starting to feel a little warm even though daytime seems nice.

Sunday, April 5, 2015

Week 12: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.85 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.15 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 4.85
Total Running Monthly (April) Mileage: 4.85
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 193.07
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 47.72

I'm finally caught up on sleep and I can resume my regular work out schedule.

Sunday, March 29, 2015

Week 11: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.75 miles, time = 55:43, pace @ 12:05
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.15 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 12.35
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 41.20
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 188.22
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 32.87

I was so glad that fog rolled in this morning. It came in quick as it was actually clear when I walked my dogs before my run. But I knew that it would roll out as quickly as it rolled in, so I had to take advantage of the cooler temperatures even though the daytime temperature today was cooler than previous days.

Friday, March 27, 2015

Week 11: Day 5 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 4.6 miles, time = 55:37, pace @ 12:05
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.36 mile
I felt better running this morning than I did on my last run. Sleep is my best friend. It was a little warm and humid this morning, but I think with better sleep, I was able to tolerate it a little better. I still don't like warm or hot, humid weather though.

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Week 11: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
While I did get my run in this morning, I really didn't want to do it and I didn't enjoy it. I think I need to catch up on sleep because I was tired and my mind really wanted to go back to sleep. My next run will be on Friday morning, so I hope to catch up on some extra sleep tomorrow and on Thursday.

Sunday, March 22, 2015

Week 10: Day 7 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 4.2 miles
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 1.85 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 12.83
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 28.85
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 175.87
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 20.52

I'm happy for overcast mornings. It's better than a warm and humid one.

Friday, March 20, 2015

Week 10: Day 5 - 2015

  • trail/road RUN with one dog = 4.33 miles, time = 52:27, pace @ 12:12
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.7 miles
Today is the first day of Spring. I'm glad that it was overcast and a bit foggy this morning for my run before it cleared up and got warm!

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Week 10: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 4.3 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
This morning was cooler than Sunday morning and I felt better running today, although not that much better.

Sunday, March 15, 2015

Week 9: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.12 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.25 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 7.77
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 16.02
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 163.04
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 7.69

I did get my run in this morning, but I really did not want to go at all. It was like my legs and feet were complaining at me. It was warm this morning even at 7am, and I know that the warm weather was partially the reason why I struggled to run, but I'm not sure if the warm weather was entirely to blame. I felt totally fine on Friday morning.

I'm really not looking forward to summer and hot weather. The only thing I look forward to for the summer is getting a bike ride at 6am. I like to run in cold weather, but hate running in warm or hot weather. I don't like to ride a bike in cold or hot weather, but will ride in warm weather around 70-something degrees.

Friday, March 13, 2015

Week 9: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.15 miles, time = 37:08, pace @ 11:57
  • easy walk with two dogs = 2.3 miles
Warmer weather is finally here and I don't like it one bit!! I'm going to start complaining a lot about summer and hot weather. Good thing I don't have any races coming up anytime soon.

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Week 9: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.5 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
This time change is messing me and I seem more tired since we had to change the clocks one hour ahead. Good thing I didn't have a race on Sunday, immediately after changing the time. I actually forgot that we had to change the time by 2am. I also would have been very, very tired!

I didn't do a run yesterday morning like I wanted to. I had to be at work by 8am. It didn't get light out until around 7am. I don't like running in the dark and if I didn't get a run in the morning, I would never do it later (I will make up every excuse not to run). Hopefully, my work schedule is a little better next week so I can get a run in on Tuesday morning (before work) if possible. Yesterday's early start was due to a "corporate" situation.....

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

Week 8: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.04 miles, time = 23:08, pace @ 11:20
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1.65 miles
I know I said that I would take a break from running. I'm now officially on break. I wanted to get a short, easy recovery in this morning. I wanted to run in my new shoes. It actually really nice to run in new shoes. My now old shoes needed to be retired from all the training that I did between the half marathon and the 10K run.

Now I'm deciding if I want my next run on Sunday or next Tuesday.

Friday, February 27, 2015

Week 7: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 5 miles, time = 59:15, pace @ 11:58
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
Last training run for awhile...until the next race whichever and whenever that is. I can finally take a break from running!

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Week 7: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.37 miles, time = 40:09, pace @ 11mph
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.1 miles
Did my ride this morning, but don't know why I was so unmotivated to ride. I usually ride faster too.

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Week 7: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles, time = 38:15, pace @ 11:57
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1.7 miles
Training is almost over...I have one more run before the race and then I can take a break.

Sunday, February 22, 2015

Week 6: Day 7 - 2015

  • trail/road RUN with one dog = 6.1 miles, time = 1:13:28, pace @ 12:03
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.75 miles

Total Running Weekly Mileage: 14.63
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 49.19
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 138.82
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 389.62

I'm ready for the 10K race next weekend and I don't want to run anymore. I had planned to do a slightly longer run (6.7 miles) this morning, but I was unmotivated. While I was unmotivated and really didn't want to run, I made myself do a six mile run. I told myself that I would feel better afterwards.

Friday, February 20, 2015

Week 6: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 5.33 miles, time = 59:08, pace @ 11:08
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
I felt a little better running this morning. I hope I feel ok to run on Sunday morning.

Wednesday, February 18, 2015

Week 6: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.2 miles, time = 38:25, pace @ 12:00
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.1 miles
I have no motivation to run. I'm not sure if I'm having sleep issues and I need to catch up on sleep or I just really don't want to run anymore and I want/need a break. I wasn't tired on Sunday or Monday where I had a lot of free time to nap. I didn't feel tired yesterday or today either. I tried to take a nap today, but it didn't happen.

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Week 6: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy BIKE ride = 7.37 miles, time = 36:00, pace @ 12.3 mph
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2 miles
I have less than two weeks left for my next race, 10k run and I'm battling a case of laziness. I'm not done training although I think I can get away with it being less than stellar and will just fine at the race.

Friday, February 13, 2015

Week 5: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 5 miles, time = 1:01:44, pace @ 12:19
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.5 miles
It was so warm this morning! Why, in the middle of February are we getting Spring/Summer weather?! February used to have super cold nights/mornings.

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Week 6: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy bike ride = 7.36 miles, time = 40:32, pace @ 10.9
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.55 miles
Since I haven't been cycling regularly, I've gotten slower with it. I know that I have to get back into cycling again even if it is not for an event. It just feels good to ride.

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Week 6: Day 2 - 2015

  • very hilly trail RUN (solo) = 3.55 miles, time = 45:38, pace @ 12:41
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.1 miles
I did a run on a very hilly trail. I hadn't done this trail in a few weeks. Today was the first time that I was able to run the first mile without breaks (walks or complete stops). The few times that I did do the run, I was only able to run the first half mile (flat with one easy hill). I'm probably not going to be able to run to the top of the hill without any breaks before my next race, but any little improvement is better than none. I also need to remind myself to do this trail because I know it will help my endurance for the next race which has a challenging hill. I think this training trail run has a tougher hill to tackle so the hill in the race will seem a little easier.

Sunday, February 8, 2015

Week 5: Day 7 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 6 miles, time = 1:13:53, pace @ 12:19
  • easy WALK with dogs = 2.5 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 12.91
Total Running Monthly (February) Mileage: 26.01
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 89.63
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 340.43

My need to take a nap is off. I never need to take a nap on days that I don't have to work, but always need one on days that I do have work and don't really have enough time or don't want to. Yesterday, I needed a nap, but I was so concerned about oversleeping and not waking up on time to get ready for work, that I didn't get a good quality nap.

Friday, February 6, 2015

Week 5: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.2 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.3 miles
I really need a nap, but I couldn't sleep when I tried to take one today. I really couldn't get into my run and had no motivation this morning. I had planned to do a bike ride tomorrow with a meetup group, but with this urge to sleep (and not being able to), I'm not sure if I can make it to the ride tomorrow.

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

Week 5: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 2.71 miles, time = 32:52, pace @ 12:08
  • easy WALK with dogs  = 1.6 miles
  • bike ride = 6 miles
  • easy walk to store = 1.2 miles round trip
I had planned to do a run yesterday, but when I took out my car (was driving to a trail for a run), I noticed that my car was having some problems (not the point that it was undriveable, but was rough to drive). I lost motivation to run. I was able to get to work with my car in the condition that it was in yesterday though. I don't know why it didn't happen on Monday when I had the day off from work and I had more time to take it to a shop. I did do my run this morning and my car is in the shop being worked on, but I have a little bit more time to wait around for my car before work today though.

Friday, January 30, 2015

Week 4: Day 5 - 2015

  • trail/road RUN with one dog = 6.7 miles, time = 1:21:33, pace @ 12:10
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
Finished my last training run for the half marathon race. Tomorrow is rest day and I pick up my race packet at the race expo. I don't have to work tomorrow night, so I can make sure that I get to bed early for plenty of rest!

I was hoping for an overcast sky or very cold temperature on Sunday morning. I guess I can suck it up and deal with cold temperatures at the start time and slightly warm (60-ish degrees) temperature by the time I finish. Not exactly my ideal weather, but I guess it's better than 70+ degrees.

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Week 4: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 5.1 miles, time = 1:03:01, pace @ 12:21
  • easy walk with two dogs = 2.1 miles
I'm tired and I want to take a nap! I attempted to take a nap this afternoon, but I couldn't fall asleep! I hope I can take a nap on Friday afternoon before I head to work. I'm tired and I don't feel too motivated to run. I did run this morning, but I just couldn't get into it.

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Week 4: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN (solo) = 3.1 miles
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2.1 miles
I forgot to press the start time for my run this morning. Whoops. Oh well.

I have a dilemma. I'm not officially done training, but I'm bored of running and I don't want to run anymore. After the race this weekend, I still have another four weeks to train/run because I have a 10k on March 1. I can't officially take a break just yet.

Friday, January 23, 2015

Week 3: Day 5 - 2015

  • trail/road RUN with one dog = 6 miles, time = 1:13:34, pace @ 12:14
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1.5 miles
I didn't want to run this morning, but I told myself that if I did, I could reward myself with sleep/nap. I did my run, but I had a hard time going back to sleep. Tomorrow is a rest day, so maybe I'll have a better luck catching up on my sleep.

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

Week 3: Day 3 - 2015

  • easy trail RUN (solo) = 3 miles, time = 35:27, pace @ 11:40
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.65 miles
I wasn't going to run this morning. Mainly because I was being lazy and wanted to sleep in until it was time to get ready for work. I didn't have to be at work until 11am, but I told myself that if I get a run in early, I'll feel better when I'm at work. I feel more alert and awake when I run right before work. Too bad, I didn't really feel less stressed.

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Week 3: Day 2 - 2015

  • trail RUN with one dog = 4.83 miles, time = 59:20, pace @ 12:04
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 2 miles
I almost didn't want to run this morning (laziness kicked in), but I did it. I also need to get back into cycling. I haven't been doing it and I know that I have to. Not that I'm training for a competitive race for a time, but I am doing a 20 mile bike event in six weeks. Even though it'll be for fun, I'll be very sore without some form of cycling training followed by a 10k race for the next day.

Sunday, January 18, 2015

Week 2: Day 7 = 2015

  • LONG RUN (solo) = 12.04 miles, time = 1:18:37, pace @ 11:31
  • WALK with rescue dogs at Pet Rescue = 3.6 miles
  • easy WALK with my dogs = 1.55 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 23.34
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 50.79
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 50.79
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 300.59

Two more weeks left until race day. I can't wait for it. Then after that, I have another four weeks to train/run for a 10K race. I'm ready for a break from running.

Friday, January 16, 2015

Week 2: Day 5 - 2015

  • easy trail/road run (solo) = 6 miles, time = 1:10:08; pace @ 11:41
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.25 miles
I think I'm battle a case of laziness and not bad motivation. I have a hard time getting out for a run, but once I get out and start running, it felt nice and good. I need to fight this laziness, so I can finish training!

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

Week 2: Day 2 - 2015

  • road RUN (solo) = 5.3 miles, time = 59:31, pace @ 11:12
  • easy walk with dogs = 2.36 miles
Finally got a run in today since Friday. I wanted to run yesterday, but didn't because I had a case of laziness. Plus, I wasn't in the habit of running on Mondays. I almost didn't want to run today, but finally made myself get out at noon. I rarely get started on a run after 10:30am. If I don't start by that time, I will never run later in the day and will have no motivation to do it.

Sunday, January 11, 2015

Week 1: Day 7 - 2015

  • easy walk with dogs = 1.1 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 9.95
Total Running Monthly Mileage: 27.45
Total Running Yearly Mileage: 27.45
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 277.25

I'm updating mainly to keep track of my total mileage.

This week hasn't been good. I missed a short run due to a severe lack of motivation. Caught up with some much needed sleep and felt better by Friday. If I didn't have to work so late on Friday night, I would have gotten a short run yesterday morning.

It had been raining all day today. Of all the half marathons that I trained for before (not including the one I'm currently training for), today was the first time that I missed a major run. Thanks, Mother Nature. It probably didn't negatively (and definitely not positively) affect my overall training though. While I don't mind rain in general or doing a short run (five miles or less) in the rain, I didn't want to do an entire 11 mile run in the rain. I was afraid of getting hit by a car who couldn't stop because of slippery roads. I have enough problems with drivers in dry weather. By the time the rain "let up" and "downgraded" to a light drizzle (I'll tolerate light drizzle during a long run), it was already too late and half of my run would be in the dark. I don't like running in the dark. I also have enough problems with drivers who aren't paying attention or can't see me during the daytime. Nighttime makes it harder or drivers to see running or walking pedestrians. I also knew someone who ran at 5AM. He wore reflective clothes, lights and everything that made himself more visible to drivers. People still couldn't see him.

I normally don't run on Mondays, out of habit, because Mondays are usually my rest days. I will get a run in tomorrow. I already missed a run for the week...meaning I was suppose to run at least three days a week. I ran two days instead. I also can't miss more than more two days of running. I must run!

Week 1: Day 5 - 2015

  • trail/road run with one dog = 6.6 miles, time = 1:20:15, pace @ 12:10
  • easy walk with two dogs = 1.45 miles
After catching up on my sleep, I'm finally ready to run again. My motivation was ok today and didn't crash like on my last run.

Week 1: Day 2 - 2015

  • easy RUN with one dog = 5.35 miles, time = 1:05:55, pace @ 12:19
  • easy WALK with two dogs = 1.3 miles
My motivation crashed again. I wanted to cut my run short because I didn't want to run, but I made myself do the distance that I had planned. I tried to take a nap today, but no such luck because I wasn't tired.

Also, one of my New Year's resolutions/goals was to stretch more often, at minimum, right after a run. I forgot to stretch after my run last Friday, but I made sure to stretch after running on Sunday and today. I'm not as flexible as I used to be because I stopped stretching.

Week --? 2015

  • long RUN (solo) = 10.8 miles, time = 2:12:47, pace @ 12:13
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.3 miles
Total Running Weekly Mileage: 25.9
Total Running Monthly (January) Mileage: 17.5
Total Running Monthly (December) Mileage: 100.23
Total Running Yearly (2015) Mileage: 17.5
Total Running Yearly (2014) Mileage: 690.24
Total Running Shoe Mileage: 267.3

I didn't do my long run yesterday like I wanted. I had a work meeting this morning and went for a run after the meeting. I think I probably should have gone running yesterday morning instead. I don't know why I was so afraid of the weather just because it was over 60 degrees yesterday if I had just gone out at 9am.

I also changed my route in the middle of my run. I thought I would have still been well over eleven (11) miles. Whoops. I should still be ok for my next long run.

Week --? 2015

  • trail/road run with one dog = 6.7 miles, time 1:22:09, pace @ 12:10
  • easy walk with two dogs = 2 miles
I think I need to catch up on my sleep. I attempted to take a nap today. I hope it's enough that my motivation won't crash for my 11 mile run tomorrow morning. My motivation is starting to crash again.

Also, I've come to realize that I should have took notes and wrote down where I went running for all my long runs for 9 miles to 11 miles. I'm running almost the same routes for each long run every week and it's getting hard to figure out where I'm going for them.
