Two more weeks until the race. While my pace isn't where I want it to be, I'm ready for it. There is a challenging hill at the beginning of the race, but I'm not sure if I have the endurance to run it. I do know that I have the endurance to run a 10K distance.
I'm so glad that mother nature held out long enough on the rain for me to run 6.1 miles and walk my dog an additional 3.5 miles! I was hoping to go to a park and do some pilates of my own, but it started to rain just as I was about to take off. I suppose I can still go to the gym and do pilates, but I'm not motivated to go there now.

I should start practicing "my" yoga when I'm not in yoga class....and perhaps attend yoga a few times a week (possibly two or three times a week?). There are some poses that I can do if I just tried them at home...I can't get better if I don't try, right?

Haven't done abs since last week or two weeks ago...I'm not getting stronger if I don't work on them consistently. So I feel sore now and I'd be surprised if I'm not sore tomorrow.
Anyway, I incorporated some of the exercises that the personal trainer showed me last week. I think I'll stick with them for awhile.

Didn't get to do the calf extensions because the handle to adjust the seat was broken. I thought that it was just loose, but when I told the maintenance guy, he said it started to get bad yesterday and needed to get replaced anyway. I was going to wait on him (while I did other exercises) to replace the bad handle, but it wasn't a simple replacement...he had to take the seat apart (kinda) to replace it and it took him awhile. Oh well, next time.
I didn't do karate or hip hop class this evening. After I did my work out this morning, I spent the day with my aunt, cousin and grandma sightseeing. My grandma lives locally, but my aunt and cousin came from Vancouver, Canada. By the time I got home from spending all day with them, it was kinda too late to go to hip hop...and I'm too tired to do exercise some more.

I didn't ride my bike to the gym this morning. My cousin suggested that we met up at 11:30am this morning, but he called me while I was at the gym/pilates class saying that we should meet up later instead and he wanted me to call him before 10:30am. He knew that I would be at the gym and finish around 10:30, but I rarely ever bring my phone into the gym (seeing people on the phone, talking or texting in the gym is rather very annoying to me and is a pet peeve of mine)...even if I did my phone in with me, I wouldn't have heard it ring while I'm in a class with the music blaring. Even if the music wasn't blaring, I hate disrupting a class and especially my work out.

I feel fine with running, but I'm a bit unmotivated with the gym work outs.Boredom is probably playing a role in that lack of motivation? I don't know, but I hope to get a work out at the gym in the morning.

I ran the Firecracker 10K race in 2009 and my finish time was one hour and three minutes. At the pace that I'm running now, I doubt that I will PR (personal record). This is what happens when I somewhat gave up on running because I got bored and unmotivated with running for the sake of running and having fun with it. If I can get close to my finish time from 2009, I will be happy. Otherwise, I'm just going to run the race for fun and have a blast because I will probably feel worse if I care too much about my time and/or trying too hard.

I don't feel sore, but I don't feel like going to the gym to finish my work out. I would have done upper body strength training had I gone. Sure, it helps to have good upper body strength to propel me forward in my running, but I think missing one day of upper body strength training isn't really going to do any damage on my running performance.

I feel better working out now that I'm caught up with my sleep. I think it helps that I make myself go to sleep at 10pm like normal people rather than listen to Love Line on KROQ until the show is over. Anyway, I suppose I should forgo listening to the radio so I can actually get some sleep and do an early morning work out.
cardio:
I did make to the gym this morning and attempted my work out, however, I didn't do half of it. I felt tired and strangely really unmotivated. I think the lack of motivation was from feeling really tired. I think all these early morning work outs and not sleeping great at night as finally caught up to me. So I gave up on my work out and went back to sleep. Luckily, today is a non-running day.
We didn't have enough people for the second class of karate training, so we left early.

It feels like spring...in the middle of winter. Gotta love living in SoCal. My endurance is getting better where I can run continuously without stopping now. Now, I just have to work on my pace and running longer distances.
I almost had a bit of a scare this morning at the beginning of my run. There were two full grown labradors sitting/laying around in someone's driveway. I didn't see them right away because there were mailboxes and a bush blocking me from seeing them. I thought they would attack me because I was on the sidewalk right next to the driveway and I ran into the street to get away...they got up fast to come at me and one of them barked at me. Luckily, they just wanted to do a friendly greet than eat/bite me. I have an idea which neighbor they belonged to and it wasn't the house they sitting in front of. I don't know how they got out of the backyard, but they were also unsupervised.

My abs are sore! I've just rediscovered an exercise that I can do. It looks easy and the movement is easy. Doing the leg raises/lifts on a stability ball is so much harder to do than on the floor or doing hanging leg raises. You really do use your core muscles to lift your legs up...not like the ground leg lifts or hanging leg raises. It only works if you are holding onto something that's anchored to the ground or is heavier than you are.
I saw another customer doing this exercise last week and I decided that I wanted to try it. I tried this exercise once a long time ago, but I didn't have a heavy or anchored object to hold onto. It looked hard and it was! I think that customer started a trend with this exercise because another customer saw me doing it, he tried it (thought it was a great exercise!) and somehow another customer decided to do them after him too!
Now I'm worried about pilates class tomorrow morning. We do a good handful of abs exercises, and I know that I won't be able to do them as well as I used to because my abs will still be sore.

Right before I started training for the 10K race, I didn't have much of a running base. I somewhat gave up on running because I lost motivation and was bored of running. I think I ran a total of four or five times in the whole month of December. Because of that, I fell out of shape for running and didn't have the endurance to run consistently/non-stop. After a week of working on my endurance, I think I'm slowly getting back, although I'm slower running continuously than had I made frequent stops during the run. I have five more weeks left until the race. I'm hoping that my endurance is up to speed by then!

Oh my god, I'm so mad right now. My sister recently adopted a dog...she wanted a dog for the sake of having a dog...because the dog was cute. While the dog is/was not aggressive towards people, she had a destructive personality to begin with. My sister took the dog to obedience training, but that didn't fix the destructive behavior. I'm not trained to run with dogs and the dog is not trained to run with people for exercise or any reason except for short distances to chase after toys and small animals that she can never catch. My sister dropped her dog off to visit my dog who is low energy and only destroys her dog toys (not things like furniture, shoes, etc). I think this is just her excuse for not taking care of the dog everyday herself and/or taking full responsibility of her dog. I've been boycotting on caring for this dog.
I went to yoga class this morning after running. My shoes were fine when I left for yoga, but found the inside of one destrpyed when I came back. I just got these shoes last week and only put 13 miles on the shoes. I don't want to get a new pair of shoes to replace a new pair of shoes. My only choice is to get inserts to cover the inside because the hard shoe material is now exposed on the heel part and I don't want blisters or other skin problems with the hard material rubbing against my heel. My sister owes me now.

I decided to make "riding a bike" my new year's resolution. To be more specific, I decided to ride once a week, specifically on Tuesdays. I have been going to the gym for a year and a half and while I only live 1.5 miles from it, I have never rode the bike to the gym until today. While three miles round trip was piece of cake, there were a few small hills on the way that felt so tough to me. These hills seemed so easy to run/walk on, but for someone like me who never rode a bike for exercise or even as a means of transportation, any little hill was very noticeable and my quads definitely got a work out from riding a bike. Eventually, I will ride the bike to the gym three times a week, but that will be for February when the sunrise is earlier than 7am. In the meantime, once a week is enough and I need to get in "cycling" shape before I can ride a few more times a week.
My legs were slightly sore this morning from the lower body strength work out yesterday, but feel ok now because of the bike ride. I kinda stopped doing strength training altogether for two weeks. My upper body will be sore tomorrow too because I haven't done much for that part of the body either.

It's hard to find motivation and go out for a run when it's cloudy outside. I was actually worried that it was going to rain this morning because that was what I heard on the weather forecast a few days ago and I didn't want to run in the rain, but I was glad to find that it was just cloudy and still dry outside. The sun did try to peak through the clouds too. In fact, it started to drizzle/rain a bit after I came home from the run and walked the dogs!
So now that I'm done with running until Wednesday morning, it can rain now.

Happy new year!
First day of the new year and what did I do to start the new year? Go for a morning run, of course! First work out of the year! Gotta start the new year "strong" and healthy, don'tcha think?? I decided that today would be the first day of official 10K race training! To help me along and keep me motivated for my training, I have some new "gear" to train in like a new pair of running shoes and a new technical shirt! I definitely started the new year on the "right foot" (excuse the pun, haha)!

Anyway, the run was on a trail with challenging hills. I haven't ran on challening hills in over a year, so I'm pretty out of shape for that kind of run/terrain. I know that I should train on challenging hills because the 10K race course that I'm running next month has a challenging beginning with what seems like a 2-mile, neverending uphill "battle". As long as I work on hill running during my training, I will do just fine during the race. On top of that, it was pretty chilly/cold (around 45 or so degrees?) when I went out for a run. As much as I love running in cold mornings, I'm not used to it anymore. I just love to run in cold mornings (and am more motivated to run if the sun is out), so I will get used to it in time.
Happy New Year!
