Week 5: Day 4 - 30 January 2020

  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
  • evening group ride = 25.1 miles; time = 1:38:16; average speed @ 15.3 mph
I need to remind myself to eat something before a ride no matter how long it is. I've been getting slower each week, mainly during the last three miles with the low-grade hills because I don't have enough energy. When I do eat, I have plenty of energy and I'm averaging (or doing better) at 15.5mph.

So sore from yesterday's 60-mile ride. I felt fine yesterday during and after the ride, but I knew I would be sore today. I did a beginner level ride with a group and I struggled a little bit trying to keep near the end. Mind you, this was a beginner's ride and I'm not a beginner rider.

Week 4: Day 6 - 25 January 2020

  • morning group ride = 62.67; time = 4:05:37; average speed @ 15.3mph
  • walked dogs = 2 miles total
It's been a few months since I did a 60+ mile ride. When I did this ride (same group, same route), I was struggling during the last 15 miles and I was sore for three days. I hadn't done a ride longer than 42 mile between then and now, but I did do a few 40-42 mile rides with a total elevation of 3,000 feet. I may be a little sore tomorrow morning, but maybe not that bad. I feel stronger.

  • morning run = 2.71 miles; time = 43:07; average pace @ 15:59

I saw a skunk this morning. Glad that I didn't get sprayed because I didn't see it until after I turned a corner and I surprised it.

  • morning run = 3.3 miles; time 52:13; average pace @ 15:47

I didn't do a run yesterday. I figured my legs could use the rest after doing a long, hilly ride. I'm still a little sore.

I hemmed and hawed about doing a run this morning. It was a little windy, but told myself that it would be okay and I would feel better afterwards. The wind wasn't that bad so it was all in my head. I also hemmed and hawed about doing a ride today as well because it was a little windy when I went outside. I told myself that it would be okay. At the halfway point when I was about to hit some hills, it got pretty windy...not so windy that it was dangerous, but I was really contemplating why I was riding at all. I thought about turning around and going home, but told myself that it would be okay and I could do it. After a few miles, the wind finally died down and I felt better. I originally had wanted to do a 47-mile ride, but my legs couldn't handle anymore climbing...the total elevation for the ride that I did today was over 3,000. I'm going to feel it tomorrow, but I feel accomplished!

Week 3: Day 6 - 18 January 2020

  • morning group ride = 28 miles; time = 2:00:57; average speed @ 14 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
On Monday and Tuesday, I woke up with a stuffy nose. My lazy butt decided to sleep in on both mornings thinking that it would just simply go away. Thanks to my lazy butt, I was coughing, had a little bit of a sore throat (it would only hurt when I coughed), a stuffy head and a stuffy nose at the end of my workday on Tuesday. I was also sneezing a lot at work on Tuesday. My stuffy nose wouldn't have gone past that had I done a short run on Monday or Tuesday morning before work. Luckily, I recovered fairly quickly. I'm still coughing, but not so much. My throat doesn't hurt and my nose isn't stuffy anymore. I went to dinner at a nice restaurant on Sunday night. I'm pretty sure it was someone (manager or server) who worked there that got me sick. People who work in the food industry shouldn't work when they're sick especially if they're in direct contact with both the customers and the food.

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 85.84

I think I did too much yesterday because I felt a little sore this morning. The soreness was more obvious during the run though. I'm more likely going to run tomorrow morning, even though I also don't feel like it.

Week 2: Day 6 - 11 January 2020

  • morning run = 6.02 miles; time = 1:31:05; average pace @ 15:08 mpm
  • morning ride = 41.84 miles; time = 3:02:21; average speed @13.7 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I had all these photos/screenshots in mind from my video footage with stories to tell. I don't care anymore after I almost got ran over and almost got ran off the road during my ride. I was almost done with my ride (I was 1-1/2 miles from home) when someone violently blasted his horn at me for being in his way...wanting me to get all the road and get out of his way or everyone's way. I took a screenshot of the truck with the license plate number to be put on strava. Because I wanted to put him on blast for my SoCal cycling friends to see. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same guy/white truck who violently honk at me and the group that I was with. I'm not sure if it's the same guy...the guy from that time, had dirt bikes in the back. The guy from today didn't have any dirt bikes in the back, but both had white trucks. I wish I had my taillight/camera on my bike for that guy (who honked at me and my friends). I got this taillight with a built-in camera in October 2019 (maybe end of September), but I didn't put the camera/light on to my bike until after that guy honked at my friends and me. In November, someone asked why I had this camera. Because this is why. Because of jerks like this. I'm still trying to figure out how to edit the video footage so that the incident is specifically isolated.

Week 2: Day 4 - 09 January 2020

  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
  • evening group ride = 25.1 miles; time = 1:36:30; average speed @ 15.6 mph
I was so tired that I didn't do a run this morning. I slept in a little. I almost didn't take my dogs out for a walk before work, but I'm telling myself that I walk my dogs everyday whether I ride or run or not. I feel like if I'm going to update my blog with a work out (bike or run), I don't want it to show that I only walked my dogs for a total of 3/4 miles when I normally walked them 2.5 or 2.6 miles total.  I didn't take them out for a walk everyday last year. The days that I didn't walk them, I just took them outside. I was good at walking them everyday (except when it rained) the year before.

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 74.55
Total Monthly Mileage: 74.55
Total Yearly Mileage: 74.55

Normally, I would keep track of the mileage on my shoes, but I'm just too lazy to go check garmin to figure that out. It's roughly 155 miles (give or take) on them. On average, my running shoes have lasted 300 miles...some more than others. I'm going to hope that this pair of shoes will last me until 10K race day next month.

Week 1: Day 6 - 04 January 2020

  • morning group ride = 26.55 miles; time = 1:57:49; average speed @ 13.5mph
  • walked dogs = 1.9 miles total

Thursday, January 2, 2020

  • morning (hill training) run = 3.87 miles; time = 1:01:02; average pace @ 15:46
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I'm semi-training for an upcoming 10k run. I can kinda cheat where I don't necessarily need to train for the distance because I can easily run 10k anytime and any day. The course is on a very hilly course, so I just need to train on hills. Now only if I can make an effort to train on hills regularly/weekly.
