Week 26: Day 7 30 June 2019

  • morning run = 3.8 miles; time = 54:07; average pace @ 14:41
  • morning group ride = 20.06 miles; 1:39:10; average speed @ 12.1 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
Running:
Total Weekly Mileage: 20.41
Total Monthly Mileage: 74.09

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 47.59

We had an "interesting" group ride today. It was weird and kinda funny, actually. A random driver in a car pulled up to us while we were at one of our rest stops and started yelling at us, saying things like how she would take us to jail for poisoning the local water and not having jobs. I'm not sure why she felt the need to do this to us. She must have picked us because we were a group (on bikes) and we were stopped (for a rest break). She had no proof that we poisoned any water or not having jobs. Luckily, she didn't try to follow us around.

Week 26: Day 6 - 29 June 2019

  • morning group ride = 27.53 miles; time = 2:02:13; average speed @ 13.5 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.2 miles total
I think I may be doing my own rides on Saturday mornings from now on instead of the group ride. Someone from the ride won't stop "pestering" me about how much water I'm drinking (in her mind, I'm not drinking enough) during a bike ride. She doesn't believe me that I drink one gallon of water a day (more on hot days) - this is normal for me and I'm used to it. If she is that type of person who drinks two gallons of water a day, that's great. One gallon is enough for me and many people don't even drink that much on any given day. It's like I should drink two gallons a day because one gallon isn't enough. Like my needs should be the same as her needs. Last year, she did a ride and it was pretty hot that day. There were five or six other people who did the same ride and started at the same time as her. She was the only person who got sick from dehydration. Because apparently, she didn't drink enough water during the few days leading up to that day. So, I don't think I will be doing rides with this person much longer because I don't want to listen to her complain about how much water I'm drinking since she isn't listening to me that I already drink one gallon a day which is plenty. I don't even drink anything for one hour of running. The last two half marathons that I did, I had some water, but not enough for the distance or the weather. The last half marathon that I did, it was 50-ish F degrees at the start and about 65-70-ish F degrees when I crossed the finish line. I was sore, but I didn't feel sick or dizzy. I grabbed everything (water/banana/other snacks/whatever) at the finish line and I always had/have a 1/2 gallon jug of water waiting in my car.

Week 26: Day 5 - 28 June 2019

  • morning run = 6.14 miles; time = 1:22:47; average pace @ 13:31
  • walked dogs = 2.7 miles total
I've come to a conclusion...I think that I need a day, except for maybe walk my dogs, where I don't do anything like exercise (run/bike/hike) or work and just catch up on sleep...or actually sleep in longer until noon/afternoon. On my rest days where I don't run/bike, but still have to go to work, I take my dogs out (not walk) at 7am, then I walk them in the afternoon during my lunch break and then walk them after work when I get home. I used to walk my dogs 2.6 miles (total) whether it was my rest day, run day, bike day, or bike/run day. I've gotten very lazy and don't walk them more than 0.6 mile (total) on my rest days. In the morning before work after I take them out for a potty break, I go back to bed and keep sleeping until it's time to get dressed for work. I think I need a real rest day that doesn't involve exercise or work because I think I'm in desperate need of rest/more sleep. But I feel like I should still do something productive on my non-work days like run or ride a bike.

I went for a group ride this morning and it was the first time that I forgot to bring water for a ride. I had it in my car, but forgot to put it in the water bottle holder on my bike when I was setting up. Luckily, it wasn't humid or that warm and I did fine during the ride.

Week 25: Day 6 - 22 June 2019

  • morning solo ride = 20.37 miles; time = 1:52:22; average speed @ 10.9 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I was originally going to do a group ride with some friends this morning, but it got canceled because it was lightly misty/drizzling at 6-something am. So I did my own ride. Rain? What's that? I checked the hourly forecast and there was nothing (no rain, mist or drizzle) from 7am to 11am and the sun came out sometime after 11am. My friends got paranoid for nothing. Apparently, they only look out the window and assume whatever weather is at that moment will be the same for the rest of the morning or day. This wasn't the first time that they got paranoid about the weather and canceled a ride because they thought that it would rain. I ended up doing my own ride that morning after checking the hourly forecast and I was fine. It did rain that day, but it didn't happen until 3pm.

Week 25: Day 4 - 20 June 2019

  • morning run = 5.06 miles; time = 1:11:26; average pace @ 14:07
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
Just updating this. That is all.

Week 25: Day 2 - 18 June 2019

  • morning run = 4.66 miles; time = 1:05:46; average pace @ 14:06
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I forgot to check my tire after getting a flat on Sunday morning. It went flat again because there was a staple stuck in the tire which caused the flat. I didn't change the flat during the ride...we just added air and it held up long enough for us to finish the last mile back to the parking lot. So I took out the new tube to change out the "bad" tube and then realize that the new tube had the wrong valve. It doesn't fit (too big) for the rim on my bike. By the time that I realize that I had to go to Jax (bike shop), it was too late (it was 6:30pm...they closed at 7pm and I couldn't get there on time before they closed). I can't return the tube because it has been longer than 30 days (I don't have the receipt anymore anway), so I don't have a choice to pay for a new tube and I have to wait until tomorrow to stop by Jax. So much for a bike ride after work. I actually had the motivation to ride and I got dressed too. I'm not sure if I'll have enough motivation to ride after work on Thursday or ride in the morning before work (I don't have time to ride after work on Friday because I have other plans).

Monday, June 17, 2019

Week 25: Day 1 - 17 June 2019

  • morning run = 4.49 miles; time = 1:09:29; average pace @ 15:28
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I went to bed late last night knowing that I should be going to bed early if I wanted to run at 4:45am the next morning. I don't know why it took me so long to finally get to bed and fall asleep. I'm determined to go to bed early tonight. I didn't sleep that well last night, so it affected my running. I'm also still sore from riding this past weekend, so that affected my running. I was going to do a ride after work today, but decided not to because I felt like I would be grumpy and angry for trying.

Week 24: Day 7 - 16 June 2019

  • morning group ride = 18.37 miles; time = 1:34:15; average speed @ 11.7 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
Running:
Total Weekly Mileage: 18.58
Total Monthly Mileage: 36.44
Total Yearly Mileage: 364.76
Total Shoe Mileage: 128.37

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 46.07
Total Monthly Mileage: 65.90
Total Yearly Mileage: 865.70

I think I got carried away with my speed/pace during the last seven miles of yesterday's ride from "chasing" after someone who was riding in the group. On a normal ride, we would have gotten back to our cars by 10:30am, but since we had a beginner rider, it took us a little longer than usual and the rider (that I was chasing after) needed to to get back and was in a hurry. I wanted to "chase" after him because I thought that it would help me work on my speed and of course, I was naturally competitive. I couldn't keep up and had to let him go. I finished earlier than the rest of the group, but it didn't help that someone from the rest of the group had a flat. I waited ten minutes for them at the parking lot, but got tired and left. Anyway, I was sore this morning and felt every hill. My legs hurt on the really tiny hills too. Someone from this morning's group ride was a little out of shape also from not riding for a month so she couldn't do her normal speed. I'm actually glad that I did a group ride. If I did my own ride, I would have been angry at myself and asking "Why am I doing this ride???" because I was sore. It's hard to be angry when you're with a group of people in a generally good mood. I also got a  flat this morning during the ride, less than two miles of finishing the ride. What are the chances that two people getting a flat in the same ride? (Someone else got a flat too.) Had I done my own ride, getting a flat would have made me angrier.

Week 24: Day 6 - 15 June 2019

  • morning run = 3.83 miles; time = 56:10; average pace @ 14:39
  • morning group ride = 27.7 miles; time = 2:00:50; average speed @ 13.8 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
So tired this morning. I almost didn't run because I wanted to sleep in a little longer until it was time to get ready for the ride, but I figured I would feel better once I headed out and start.

Friday, June 14, 2019

Week 24: Day 5 - 14 June 2019

  • morning run = 4.9 miles; time = 1:11:10; av erage pace @ 14:31
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I've become lazy about walking my dogs on days that I don't run. It's like I rather sleep in an extra hour than take them out for a walk (I already get an extra three hours for not running in the morning...), even though walking is exercise...even though it doesn't really help me wake up like running or riding a bike. I just take them outside long enough for them to do their business and then go back to sleep for another hour before getting ready for work. I wanted to ride yesterday morning, but got lazy and wanted to sleep in. I wanted to ride after work today, but laziness kicked in.

Week 24: Day 2 - 11 June 2019

  • morning run = 5.02 miles; time = 1:07:51; average pace @ 13:30
  • walked dogs = 2.5 miles total
Today (daytime high) was hotter than yesterday. but this morning felt cooler and less humid. I'm not thinking that I should do a bike ride in the morning one day a week in July and August if it's going to be hot like this. I had wanted to go for a ride after work today, but I just couldn't do it. Even though I see my friends on Strava doing rides in the afternoon (midday) and early evening hours. I don't know how they do it, but I think they can tolerate hot weather better than I can.

Monday, June 10, 2019

Week 24: Day 1 - 10 June 2019

  • morning run = 4.83 miles; time = 1:06:17; average pace @ 13:43
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I was going to do a ride after work today, but it was too hot (a hike would have been doable as long as there was a creek with running water). I thought it was normal for California to have June gloom, but not this year, I guess.

Sunday, June 9, 2019

Week 23: Day 7 - 09 June 2019

  • morning group ride = 27.67 miles; time = 2:01:11; average speed @ 13.7 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.3 miles total
Running:
Total Weekly Mileage: 17.86
Total Monthly Mileage: 17.86
Total Yearly Mileage: 346.18
Total Shoe Mileage: 109.79

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 70.95
Total Monthly Mileage: 119.83
Total Yearly Mileage: 819.63

I was going to do a hike this afternoon, but I changed my mind because it was so hot. Summer is finally here. I think I could and should have gone on a hike today in the middle of the afternoon because I got a water filter drinking straw for Christmas (white elephant) two years ago as long as I was on a hike that had a creek with running water. I've never used it on a hike and I've been wanting to try it. I'm going to remember this for the next weekend that I have time.

Week 23: Day 6 - 08 June 2019

  • morning run = 3.03 miles; time = 43:01; average pace @ 14:11
  • morning group ride= 27.98 miles; time = 2:04:46; average speed @ 13.5 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
I was going to do a run yesterday morning, but decided to take a rest day because I felt like I needed one. I feel better now.

Thursday, June 6, 2019

Week 23: Day 4 - 06 June 2019

  • morning run = 4.23 miles; time = 59:30; average pace @ 14:03
  • walked dogs = 2.4 miles total
I went for a run on a trail this morning. On this one part of the trail, it was closed off on one end, but not the other end. Parks and Recreations didn't block it off. There were posted signs on that side, but at 5am, it was hard to see the sign so I had no idea that the trail was closed for renovations. I did notice work being done on it, but it was too late and I had already started running on it. When I got to the trail that was closed off, I was able to squeak by because the yellow tape was broken, but the dirt/trail was lower than the sidewalk and I tripped on the sidewalk. It didn't help that I didn't pick up my feet. I had to finish my run with a bloody, scrapped knee. I was mad. I guess my ego was more hurt/bruised than my knee. My knee hurt a little bit, but it was more bloody than it was painful.

Random fun fact: Today, June 05, is Global Running Day!

Monday, June 3, 2019

Week 23: Day 1 - 03 June 2019

  • morning run = 5.06 miles; time = 1:06:07; average pace @ 13:03
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
  • evening solo ride = 15.30 miles; time = 1:08:07; average speed @ 13.5mph
I decided to try out this whole "ride after work" thing this evening and stop making up excuses. "It's too windy" is usually my excuse for not riding after work. In my mind, 10-12mph is too much and I complain (to myself) about it, but it's actually not that bad. I thought about riding in the morning before work, but I'd like two days a week to have an extra three hours of sleep. Now only if I can get myself to head out for a ride at or before 6:30pm so I can do a 17 or 20 mile ride before it gets dark (I left at 6:45pm and it gets dark-ish at a little after 8pm).

Week 22: Day 7 - 02 June 2019

  • morning group ride = 20 miles; time = 1:31:39; average speed @ 13.1 mph
  • walked dogs = 2.6 miles total
Running:
Total Weekly Mileage: 17.09
Total Monthly (May) Mileage: 82.51
Total Monthly (June) Mileage: 0
Total Yearly Mileage: 328.32
Total Shoe Mileage: 91.93

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 81.88
Total Monthly (May) Mileage: 225.15
Total Monthly (June) Mileage: 48.88
Total Yearly Mileage: 748.68

I was going to do a run this morning before my group ride (at 8:30am), but I didn't sleep at all last night. I basically laid there in bed and pretended to sleep with my eyes closed. I took a nap yesterday afternoon and that screwed me up. I mentioned/complained before that I was afraid of taking a nap on the weekends to catch up on sleep and that it would screw me up because it happened a few months ago (March). I figured I should skip the run and maybe I would be okay for the ride. Surprisingly, I did do okay during the ride. I didn't take a nap this afternoon, but I didn't need to anyway because I didn't feel tired. I hope I sleep well/better tonight.
