Between always being tired and being lazy, I haven't been updating my blog. While I did do a few bike rides last week, I didn't do any runs or walk my dogs (I just took them outside) because I was tired and felt that I needed more rest (sleeping in until it was time to get ready for work), but in actuality, I needed a whole day of rest and doing nothing (like by not going to work). I finally caught up on sleep after doing a ride on Saturday even though it backfired on me and I had three hours of sleep on Saturday night. I felt good during and after yesterday's ride though. I'm also not helping myself by going to bed late (like 10pm) like I did last night when I want to do a run at 5am.
I've had my new bike for seven and a half weeks now. My friends that I've been riding with regularly have commented/complimented that I've greatly improved and gotten faster. My goal, everytime I ride, is to try keeping up with the faster people and it has been working. Some of my friends pick on me and joke that I need to go back to my old bike (my old bike is trash now).
I've signed up for the Firecracker 10k run (15 February) and Firecracker 40 mile bike ride (16 February). I didn't do the Firecracker ride this year because I could only afford one or the other and the run was naturally my first choice. When I did do the Firecracker ride before, I normally would sign up for the 20 mile ride, but I'm bored of that event and want to do something more challenging. My longest ride was 35 miles, so 40 miles will be a new distance for me, but I'm not worried about the distance. Since both events (the run and bike) both start and end in Chinatown-Downtown L.A., they both also go through Elysian Park which is very hilly. So I need to be doing some hill training for both. I can cheat a little bit on the run and can get away with not really (sorta) training for the distance, but I definitely need to train on hills. I haven't started any hill training and I think I need to start now?
