Week 18: Day 3 - 2014

  • easy trail/road run (solo) = 4.45 miles, time = 50:16, pace @ 11:18
  • easy bike ride = 7.8 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.5 miles

Today was the first time that I did a bike ride since the bike "race" in February. I blame laziness. I have no other excuse on why I haven't been doing my bike rides. Surprisingly, I don't feel sore right now. However, I still need to get back into the habit of riding again, even if it's just once a week. I'm going to make myself go "early" in the morning though like at 8:30am. Even though today was pretty warm, it's not that bad at that time. It may also be a good idea to go at that time during the summer when the humidity level is horrible and uncomfortable.

Week 18: Day 2 - 2014

  • easy RUN (non-stop, no breaks) with one dog = 1.3 miles, time = 14:15, pace @ 10:48
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.5 miles

This morning was a bit warm. My dog did pretty well considering it was warmer than usual. Since it's been getting warmer in the mornings now these days, I have to start running at 6am, especially for my dog. It's going to be hard if/when I have to work late at night.

Week 17: Day 6 - 2014

  • easy road run with one dog = 1.3 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.5 miles

This week was the first time that I ran six days in awhile. I also ran five days in a row for the first time in awhile. I don't know where I'm getting this extra motivation to run, but it would have been to have some when I'm training for a race! I'm not sure if I will run tomorrow, but we will see how I feel.

Week 17: Day 5 - 2014

  • trail/road run (solo) = 4.4 miles, time = 49:24, pace @ 11:18
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.7 miles

It sucks to twist an ankle during a run. I seem to always manage to twist my ankle, going down an easy hill on a perfectly good trail....a perfectly good trail that was even (not potholes, cracks, etc) and clean (no rocks, sticks, or other objects). Good thing it was minor and the pain went away after a few minutes. It would have sucked if it was a real injury because I was one mile away from home.

Week 17: Day 4 - 2014

  • easy trail/road run (non-stop) with one dog = 1.2 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1 mile

Jubee seems to be doing better with running. Although she's lagging behind a little bit, but better than before.

Week 17: Day 3 - 2014

  • trail/road run (solo) = 4.3 miles, time = 46:26, pace @ 10:48
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.6 miles

I still have my endurance, although I should get into doing warm ups before my runs. Usually my feet feel tight and a bit heavy in the beginning, but feels better after 10 or 15 minutes. I need to come up with something to myself more interested in doing warm ups.

Week 17: Day 2 - 2014

  • easy road/trail run with one dog = 1 mile
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.7 miles

If you're raising money for a charity, how would you do it?

While I still nine months to raise money for "Run For Mobility" and my next half marathon, I'm trying to think of different ways to raise money for this charity. I'd like to do more than just ask people to donate.

Week 16: Day 7 - 2014

  • trail/road run (solo) = 3.2 miles, time = 35:38, pace @ 11:08
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.6 miles

Total Weekly Mileage: 8.05
Total Monthly Mileage: 22.34
Total Yearly Mileage: 144.12
Total Shoe Mileage: 41.07

I'm glad that I haven't lost my endurance. I think it's time to work on some hill running to work on my endurance and leg strength a little more. I also need to get back into bike riding.

Week 16: Day 4 - 2014

  • easy RUN with one dog = 1 mile
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.5 miles

My dog, Jubee, did it. She ran one mile continuously without stopping! She's a little slow and gets a bit tired easily, but it's progress! I'm going to keep doing one mile continuously with her until she is less tired before adding some distance/minutes. I'm happy now.

Week 16: Day 3 - 2014

  • trail/road run (solo) = 2.7 miles, time = 29:02, pace @ 10:45
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.8 miles

I used to take vitamin B complex before my runs. Originally it suggested to help me run faster. It did when I first started taking it. Lately, it hadn't done anything and I had been running slower. I stopped taking it and I seem to run faster. Now I think I should work on hill training because I know that this helps with running faster. If not on the speed, definitely on the leg strength and endurance for sure.

Week 16: Day 2 - 2014

  • road/trail WALK/RUN with one dog = 1.15 miles
  • easy walk with two dogs = 1 mile
Stupid sidewalks that have imperfections. While out running with my dog, I tripped on an uneven crack and had a "nice meeting" with the sidewalk. Good thing I wasn't that far from home...only one mile, but the bad thing was, I still had one mile to finish my run/walk and I had to do it with a bloody knee. Except for the scrape, my knee is fine and I can still run tomorrow morning.

Week 15: Day 7 - 2014

  • road/trail run (solo) = 2.5 miles; time = 27:02, pace @ 10:49
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.5 miles
Running Total Mileage:
Total Weekly Mileage: 5
Total Monthly Mileage: 14.29
Total Yearly Mileage: 136.07
Total Shoe Mileage: 33.02

I think I'm glad that the beginning of Spring has been cooler than usual for the most part. I can sleep in and run a little bit later in the morning because of a late night work shift. I'm glad for cloudy mornings and I've been reminding myself that it's ok to run at 8am instead of 6am. Last year, I was lazy and I didn't remind myself or accepted that it was ok to run a little later in the morning.

I had a work meeting this morning at 8am. Although I didn't want to go because I just wanted to sleep some more, I was glad that it was still cool and cloudy afterwards, so I could go for a run.

Week 15: Day 5 - 2014

  • easy RUN/WALK with one dog = 1.2 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.4 miles
Jubee and I are doing better with the running. We took one 2-minute walk break during the run this morning and Jubee did well. I think I will try to make her run one mile continuously without stopping next time. This makes me want to do a 5K run with my dog, Jubee. I think Jubee will do fine after some training, but I don't know if I will actually sign up for one. I generally just don't like to do 5K runs/races because they are too short and boring for me. I'm still going to look for dog-friendly 5K races that allow dogs on the course anyway in case I actually do sign up...maybe...if I find one that I like. I know for sure that the L.A. Firecracker 10K race does, but I want to do that one alone.

Week 15: Day 2 - 2014

  • easy WALK/RUN with one dog = 1.3 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.5 miles
I think summer has arrived! It was so warm today. Maybe I should have done some swimming with my dog, Jubee, today. I'd really like to work with Jubee in the pool and have her get used to being in the water and enjoy swimming. Maybe tomorrow,  because tomorrow will be warm too.

Week 14: Day 7 - 2014

* road/trail run (solo) = 3.54 miles; time = 38:24, pace @ 10:51
* easy walk with dogs = 1 mile

Although I would have preferred running at 6:30am, it was hard to wake up that early after a late night shift at work, so I had to go run at 8:30am instead. It's a good thing that the weather isn't that bad and it's tolerable enough.

Week 14: Day 5 - 2014

  • easy RUN/WALK with one dog = 1.3 miles
  • easy hike = 3 miles
My dog, Jubee, seems to get better with running. I was alternating between four minute running/jogging and one minute walking. She did pretty well after the first four minutes of running.

I also took both of my dogs on a hike today. We did an easy three mile hike at the Monrovia Canyon Park. Today seemed a little bit busier with more people out hiking than the last time I took my dogs on a hike. Perhaps, last time was on a different day like a Tuesday or something. I think I'm going to go on another hike with my dogs and try not to go on a Friday or weekend. Those narrow trails are hard to be on with my dogs and other people who don't pay attention to their surroundings (they act like they are the only ones on the trail).

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Week 14: Day 3 - 2014

  • easy WALK/RUN with one dog = 1.2 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1 mile

I think I'm going to go on an easy 3 mile hike soon with my dogs and I think I will go on Friday if I'm not lazy.

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Week 14: Day 2 - 2014

  • trail run (solo) = 3.25 miles, time = 35:16; pace @ 10:51
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.5 miles
  • walk to/after Panera Bread = 1.5 miles one way or 3 miles roundtrip
I decided to walk to Panera Bread to meet my knitting group this evening. Too bad, no one from the group showed up. I think I'm a little sore from all the walking that I did today.
