Week 5: Day 5 - 2014

* trail/road (solo) RUN = 4.83 miles, time = 52:53, pace @ 10:54
* easy WALK with dogs = 1.5 miles

I think it's time to get new shoes. I get mild shin splints (slightly sore) after running two miles, although it goes away after mile 3. So weird. I've also put 450 miles on the shoes (average life span for shoes is between 300 and 500 miles). But I don't want to get new shoes until after I do my 10k race in four weeks. It's only four weeks. I should be fine, right?

Week 5: Day 2 - 2014

* hilly (very challenging) hilly run = 1.1 miles, time = 14:20, pace @ 13:02
* easy WALK with dogs = 1.4 miles

I had planned to do a run with my dog after I got home from work, but I left work later than usual and it was too dark by the time I got home. While 6:15pm is actually not that late, I just don't like to  run in the dark. I have enough problems with motorists who don't pay attention during the daytime and I think it's harder for motorists to see runners/walkers in the dark. I'm going to attempt a run on Thursday before or after work, depending on how I feel and stuff.

Week 4: Day 7 - 2014

* trail/road run (solo) = 5.35 miles, time = 59:47, pace @ 11:10
* easy WALK with 2 dogs = 1 mile

Total Weekly Mileage: 15.56
Total Monthly Mileage: 45.93
Total Yearly Mileage: 45.93
Total Shoe Mileage: 449.95

Training week 2 is in the bag. Even though I don't like my average pace, I feel better with my endurance now and I can run continuously...at least on a mostly flat route with easy hills. The interesting thing is, my quads feel sore from yesterday's run. Of course, there was a nice, challenging (not too challenging/killer) hill, I didn't think it would make me sore because I ran on other more extremely challenging hills. It's ok, the soreness feels really mild and I don't mind it so much.

Week 4: Day 6 - 2014

* trail/road run (solo) = 4.4 miles
* easy walk with 2 dogs = 1.8 miles

I did time my run, but I think I did something wrong and pressed the wrong button on my stopwatch. I know that I can't do a 4.4 mile run in 39:58 (minutes:seconds). I haven't ran that fast in a long time and it seems really inconsistent with all of my recent runs. I didn't feel that fast either. It's ok. I'm doing a run tomorrow which is on a flatter (yet longer) course than today's run. I'll have a better idea tomorrow.

Week 4: Day 3 - 2014

* trail run (semi-challenging hills): 2.51 miles, time = 28:33, pace @ 11:22
* easy WALK with 2 dogs: 1.6 miles

I ran on a cross country course at a local junior college this morning. This course is known to be one of the toughest courses in the U.S. I haven't ran on this course in awhile. It was nice to run there again, however, I think I miss running "with" the cows. I have better run on this course a regular thing. I don't know about my overall speed, but it will sure help with my endurance.

Week 4: Day 2 - 2014

* challenging hilly run = 1.1 mile
    * warm up = 1.1 mile
    * cool down = 1.1 mile
* easy WALK with dogs = 1.6 miles

Now that I'm finally caught up on sleep that I lost in the last month, I can get back into my work out routine...

Saturday, January 18, 2014

Week 3: Day 6 - 2014

* trail/road run (solo) = 4.3 miles, time = 49:12; pace @ 11:27
* easy WALK with 2 dogs = 1.8 miles

Because I have a work meeting tomorrow morning, I've decided to do my run this morning instead. I'm not sure if I'm going to put in a work out tomorrow, but if I do, it may be a bike ride. Or maybe it'll be a complete rest day where I don't do a work out at all. I'll see how I feel tomorrow after the work meeting.

Week 3: Day 5 - 2014

* trail/road RUN (solo) = 3.2 miles, 37:16, pace @ 11:38
* easy WALK with dogs = 1.7 miles
* bike ride = 13.9 miles

I didn't record my bike ride time. I figured I would be ok without timing my ride. I did bring my watch so I can keep track of time. I seem to do ok on flat bike routes while hills make me more tired. Good thing the 20 mile bike race is on a flat route. Now I just need to figure out a way so that my shoulders don't get tired and my hands don't go numb during the ride.

Week 3: Day 3 - 2014

* bike ride = 11 miles
* easy WALK with 2 dogs = 1.5 miles
* easy RUN/WALK with 1 dog = 1.2 miles

I lost some bike/leg endurance. I think the distance wasn't the problem, but I did a route that I hadn't done in a long time which included some tough hills. I wasn't used to riding those hills anymore and made a few stops (complete stops). My bike race tour event is suppose to be flat and for fun, but at least, I have a few weeks to work on my bike/leg endurance.

Week 3: Day 2 -2014

* hilly trail run (solo) = 1.1 mile
   ~ warm up = 1.1 mile
   ~ cool down = 1.1 mile
* easy WALK with two dogs = 1.5 miles
* easy RUN/WALK with one dog = 1.2 miles

We haven't had much of a winter. I really wish it is cooler/colder in the mornings. I don't mind warm weather during the daytime when I don't have to train/run for a race, but I really am training for a race and I'd like it cooler/cold. Where are those days?

Monday, January 13, 2014

Week 3: Day 1 - 2014

* bike ride = 7.15 miles
* WALK with dogs: 1.5 miles

I haven't finished my first week of training yet and I feel like I'm training for a dualathon. I sorta am, but the bike portion is not on the same day as the running portion. I hope I can last for six weeks.

Sunday, January 12, 2014

Week 2: Day 7 - 2014

* trail/road (solo) run = 3.67 miles
* WALK with dogs = 1.9 miles

Total Weekly Mileage: 12.65
Total Monthly Mileage: 19.57
Total Yearly Mileage: 19.57
Total Shoe Mileage: 404.02

I start training for my 10K race and 20 mile bike race tomorrow. I really have to get serious with the bike training though because I've been slacking off on that part lately. And for the first time, I'm actually nervous about a race. Maybe I'm more nervous with the bike race even though it should be more fun than being an actual race. I should be fine.

Week 2: Day 5 - 2014

* trail/road run = 3.2 miles
* walk with dogs = 1.8 miles

I put in a new battery in my stopwatch so it's working now. However, I purposely left my watch at home and didn't use it this morning for my run. I need to learn that I'll be ok without timing my runs and I need to let my mind be free without worrying about time. It was nice to just go and run.

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Week 2: Day 3 - 2014

* solo road RUN = 2.07 miles
* WALK with two dogs = 1.7 miles
* RUN/WALK with one dog = 1.2 miles

I took my dog, Jubee, out for a "run" without a stopwatch AND music. I felt weird and naked, but moreso without a stopwatch. I survived. Let's try this again tomorrow!

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Week 2: Day 2 - 2014

* trail/road (solo) run = 2.51 miles, time = 28:xx
* WALK with dogs = 1.6 miles

My stopwatch was working this morning for my run, but I didn't realize that the battery would die several hours later. I didn't bother to remember and take note of my exact run time before the battery died. It was weak and it was hard to see the time/clock/etc, but I didn't think anything of it. I guess I will be running with my dog and using the stopwatch on my phone until I get a new watch battery. Maybe I will make myself do a solo run without a stopwatch. I should do that...once in awhile.

Week 1: Day 7 - 2014

* road run = 2.11 miles, time = 23:45, pace @ 11:15
* walk with dogs = 1.2 miles

Total Week Mileage: 9.03
Total Monthly (December) Mileage: 26.58
Total Monthly (January) Mileage: 6.92
Total Yearly (2013) Mileage: 552.48
Total Yearly (2014) Mileage: 6.92
Total Shoe Mileage: 391.47

When is it going to be "winter"? I want to run when it's cold in the morning!!!

Thursday, January 2, 2014

Week 1: Day 4 - 2014

* WALK/RUN with one dog: 1 mile
* bike ride: 8.23 miles, time = 38:55, pace @ 12.7 mph
* WALK with dogs: 1.2 miles

I think my dog, Jubee, seems to be getting better with running. She is less tired in the beginning with running. I seemed more tired than she did. So that's progress for her.

Did I already mention that I recently purchased a GoPro camera? I recorded my first video today during my bike ride. I seemed to enjoy my ride better with a camera on my helmet. I think motorists seem nicer to cyclists when there is a camera on their helmets. Probably because they don't want to be recorded if they're going to be jerks as videos are evidence that can be used against them. I'll share the first video tomorrow when I have more time. I think I will record all of my bike rides if it makes motorists nicer to be, but I won't share them. I'd like to record fun bike races/tours/events and other fun stuff. Those, I will be sharing.

Week 1: Day 3 - 2014

* trail/road solo RUN = 3.2 miles, time = 35:51, pace @ 11:12
* WALK with dogs = 1.9 miles

I got myself a GoPro camera. I'll start using it on my bike ride tomorrow. I'm excited to use it on future fun events.

We're finally getting cooler temperatures in the morning and I am enjoying my runs better now.
