Week 7: Day 4 - 18 February 2021

  • moring indoor ride on rollers = 10 miles; time = 41:18; average speed @ 14.5mph
  • walked dogs = 2.7 miles total
  • jump rope = 19 minutes
I think I found a temporary solution for my back issue anytime I ride more than three miles on rollers. I still think I should visit my chiropractor, but I picked up some Salon Pas cream which helped for now. Now to figure out the hand numbness when I ride on rollers. I don't know what to do about this. My bike fit guy said that a bike fitting only applied to riding outdoors (road, gravel or mountain trails) and wouldn't help much for riding on rollers.

  • yoga: time = 58:00
I did the whole ride just fine on Sunday. I had no idea that my back tire had a slow leak until yesterday morning and it was flat. I didn't hear any air leaking, but I could see the gauge thing on my pump slowly moving to the left when I inflated the tire to the minimum PSI. I must have picked up a thorn during the ride and had no idea. (I checked the inside of the tire to find any thorns stuck to it, but none was found).

I had to convince myself to take the bike out and ride a few miles. There was no wind during my run and walking my dogs this morning, but it picked up afterwards. Something was better than nothing and I told myself that I would feel better.

I felt fine during my easy, recovery ride yesterday. Felt a little sore doing my warm-up this morning and my legs felt heavy, but no pain during my run.

I think it's time to go back to my chiropractor soon. Normally, my back acts up on rides with a lot of climb (not all the time) and usually not during long, flat rides. My lower back started acting up around 20 miles into the ride. Then I had to stop every five miles or so on the way back to my car. I did a ride to Sanchos Tacos and made sure that I had a properly long rest while there. It helped a lot because my legs felt pretty good for the whole ride and didn't feel like dying.

Week 5: Day 6 - 06 February 2021

  • morning run = 5.04 miles; time = 1:17:40; average pace @ 15:25
  • walked dogs = 2.7 miles total
  • afternoon ride = 12.63 miles; time = 55:33; average speed @ 13.6mph
  • yoga...time  = 49:16
I was doing yoga three to four times a week for two (maybe three) months last year when I had more time and more energy because I was forced to work part-time (global/covid pandemic reasons). Then my work went full time, so I gave up because I was more tired. I recently got a new Garmin fitness watch that includes a specific yoga feature, so I hope this will help me do yoga more regularly, but I think I will only do yoga on the weekends when I have more time and energy.

  • morning indoor ride on rollers = 8 miles; time = 32:46; average speed @ 14.7mph
  • walked dogs = 2.7 miles total
  • jump rope = 15 minutes
    • 3 min jumping x 5
    • 1 min rest in between
I recently purchased a new jump rope where I could adjust the length according to my height. The jump rope I had before, while made with very good material, wasn't. Also I jumped rope twice last year. Not because of the length, but the weather (too hot/warm) was a major excuse for not jumping rope. I'd like to try to make this into a habit? It takes 21 days to make something into a habit, but I'm not jumping rope for 21 consecutive days, so we'll see what happens after next week.

I've decided to sign up for the "Malibu To Tahoe" virtual challenge. There is the bike challenge, run/walk challenge and the bike/run challenge (people could choose either 350 miles or 700 miles). I wish they had a different mileage (higher) for the people who chose to bike/run because I can easily meet 700 miles in two months. I have six months to complete the challenge. I'm also raising funds to fight against hunger. Please consider making a donation. Any amount, small or big, is greatly appreciated!
