Week 35: Day 1 - August 27, 2018

  • morning run (solo) = 4.1 miles; 1:02:29; average pace @ 14:50
  • easy walk with dogs = 2.7 miles total
I normally don't run on Mondays. I stopped running on Mondays and have gotten into the habit of using Mondays as non-running days since I started running half marathons in 2007, so it's been kinda weird to run on a Monday. I don't know how my work schedule is this week. I know, it's weird not knowing what my work schedule is at the beginning of a week, but I won't know until I hear back from a potential employer.

Week 33: Day 6 - August 18, 2018

  • morning group ride = 28.19 miles; time = 2:01:30; average speed @ 13.9 mph
  • walk dogs = 2.6 miles total
  • evening run (solo) = 2.50 miles; average pace @ 13:18
For the first time in forever, I did a run that wasn't in the morning. I think I need to keep my runs to the early morning hours when I have more motivation/energy and when it's cooler. I really am a morning runner and it was so weird to do a run later. I just didn't like it. I did a ride this morning because I wanted to get a ride in and I needed to put in the miles for that too. I almost didn't want to do a run at all, but told myself that I would feel better if I just did it on the track at the local high school because I needed to put in my miles for running. I felt better for doing a run, but I still really prefer morning runs. I also wish that running on the track (in circles) wasn't so boring. This is why I really don't often do runs on the track. While it's better than a treadmill (where you're literally running in place...in the same exact spot), running in circles doesn't seem that much better. You're still running in place because you're not really going anywhere....

I am doing another ride tomorrow morning which is why I did a run this evening instead.

  • walk with dogs = 2.6 miles total

Week 33: Day 2 - August 14, 2018

  • easy morning run (solo) = 2 miles; time = 29:10
  • easy walk with dogs = 2.7 miles total
So, I've basically abandoned my blog. Let's get into the habit of doing this without abandoning it again! Since I've stopped blogging and stopped logging my runs/rides (miles, finish times and average pace/speed) on LogYourRun.com for a few months, I didn't know that LogYourRun has shut down! This makes me sad because I recorded all of my event (bike and run) times on there. Now I can't access my data! So sad.

Anyway, I recently bought a pair of five-toed barefoot shoes...you really feel like you're barefoot where you can feel the ground and all of its imperfections including things like tiny rocks, sticks, glass and other tiny little things that you have to avoid. I did some easy runs last week. I finally felt adventurous to run on concrete/asphalt and a trail. I'm still a little scared of tiny rocks everywhere, but it wasn't as bad or scary as I thought. I think I'm a little less careful when I'm walking in them because I feel more rocks from walking than running.

I was going to a chiropractor for my sciatic pain (lower back, right side). While I don't get pain anymore, my lower back is still a little knotted up and sometimes acts up (mildly). I think I need a new chiropractor. My hips are still not straight, my left side is higher than my right. My last/previous pair of running shoes that I was wearing (stopped two weeks ago)…..the right shoe was wearing out faster than my left shoe. So unless I get my hips adjusted and straightened out, my back isn't going to get better...my sciatic pain and other back problems will just come back.

  • morning run (solo) = 4.5 miles; time = 58:06; average pace @ 12:55
  • walk with dogs = 2.6 miles total
I think I have no idea what I am doing and how to keep track of the weeks. I had marked last week as week 14 (as in 14 weeks into the year), but it was really week 16 and it's week 17 now! This is what happens when I abandoned my blog for a few months!

Week 14: Day 7 - April 22, 2018

  • morning run (solo) = 4.86 miles; time = 1:08:27; average pace @ 14:05

Total Yearly Mileage: 344.63

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 35.71
Total Monthly Mileage: 130.11
Total Yearly Mileage: 581.26

I got home late from work last night. Normally this wouldn't be such a problem if/when I wanted to do a run in the morning, but why did I decide to watch tv when I got home? I didn't sleep all that great and it affected my run. At first, I thought I was just really unmotivated. Then I realized that I was just tired and needed more sleep. I'll feel better for my next run. Note to self: no electronics at night!

Week 14: Day 6 - April 21, 2018

  • morning ride = 15.31 miles; time = 1:19:25; average speed @ 12.3 mph
Note to self: Eat before a run or ride, regardless of distance, whether I want to or not. My ride from yesterday could have been better if I ate beforehand and I lost some energy towards the end. I didn't feel weak or less energized from this morning, but I was hungry and maybe I could have felt a tiny bit better.

Week 14: Day 5 - April 20, 2018

  • morning run with one dog = 4.87 miles; time = 1:03:26; average pace @ 13:02
  • morning ride = 20.40 miles; time = 1:57:38; average speed @ 10.4 mph
  • walk dogs = 2.5 miles total
I did a ride (bike) on a route that I hadn't done in four months. There were some major road work/construction on one of the streets during this time. There is still road work on the street, but CalTrans finally took out the concrete barriers, so it seems less scary. I also saw a cyclist ride on the street and pass through the road work, so I figured it seemed safe enough for me to ride through since he seemed just fine. Since I feel fine now, but I guess I'll have a better idea tomorrow if I am sore or not. I didn't do this route in awhile and it was hilly. If I am not sore in the morning, I am doing another ride.

    • walk with dogs = 2.7 miles total
So I thought I had made a post last weekend as reference for myself with total yearly mileage for both running and cycling, but I forgot to save it. Whoops. I'll figure it out tomorrow when I'm less tired.

    Saturday, April 7, 2018

    Week 12: Day 6 - April 07, 2018

    • morning ride = 22.55 miles; time = 1:50:01; average speed @ 12.3 mph
    • walk with three dogs = 2.6 miles total
My back had been feeling pretty good since my chiropractor visit on Wednesday...until last night when I was doing a little too much. I woke up with sciatic pain this morning. Since I won't be riding with my friends tomorrow (because the ride ends at 10am and I have to be at work by 11am), I did a ride today and am doing an easy run tomorrow morning, really early. My back finally felt better during the ride, but it took awhile.

    Friday, April 6, 2018

    Week 12: Day 5 - April 06, 2018

    • morning run with one dog = 4.5 miles; time = 58:24; average pace @ 12:59

    • morning run with one dog = 4.17 miles; time = 56:40; average pace @ 13:35
    • walk three dogs = 2.6 miles total
So, I had an appointment with my chiropractor this morning. I have another appointment next week because my back needs more work done, but I can tell that my back is getting/feeling better. Now I'm curious to know how I will feel for my next run. My back usually feels better once my run is done, but it takes the first two miles to feel better.
