Week 9: Day 3 - 2012

cardio:
  • bike ride (@ 9:30am) = 3 miles
  • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
I don't feel sore anymore now, but I woke up sore. I think it was from yesterday's run, although I'm not so sure because I should be used to running on challenging hills. I can't think of what else could have made me sore.

    Week 9: Day 2 - 2012

    cardio:
    • hilly trail run (@ 6:20am) = 1.11 miles, time = 14:12, pace @ 12:48
      • warm up = 1.1 mile
      • cool down = 1.1 mile
It was so cold this morning, just the way I liked it...why can't it be like this every morning that I run??? I was going to run on another hill route, but since it rained pretty good yesterday, I was afraid that part of the trail in that hill route would be muddy and I don't like running in mud. I could have ran that hill route later this week though, but I decided that I'd do that run next week instead.

    Week 9: Day 1 - 2012

    cardio:
    • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
I survived and didn't get sick from walking my dog in the rain today. I'm happy about that. It feels cold out now...will it be as cold as I like tomorrow morning for my run? I hope it will be.

    Sunday, February 26, 2012

    Week 8: Day 7 - 2012

    cardio:
    • trail/road run (@ 6:15am) = 5.59 miles, time = 59:56, pace @ 10:43
    Total Weekly Mileage: 10.69
    Total Monthly Mileage: 55.37
    Total Yearly Mileage: 142.95
    Total Shoe Mileage: 263.20

I was going to run a bit longer, but I was short on time. I think it drizzle a little bit this morning and it would have been nice if it did drizzle more. 40-something degrees weather used to be so cold to me. It doesn't anymore and I think I probably have a high tolerance to the "extreme" cold now that I prefer that it's below 40 degrees.

      Week 8: Day 6

      cardio:
      • karate = 2 hours
        • first (beginner) class = 12pm to 1pm
        • second (intermediate) class = 1pm to 2pm
I didn't run yesterday. It was foggy although I would have been ok had I ran in the fog. But it's probably ok to take a break if I felt sorta unmotivated on my last run. Maybe tomorrow, I'll feel better with running.

      Thursday, February 23, 2012

      Week 8: Day 4 - 2012

      cardio:
      • trail/road run (@ 6:15am) = 5.10 miles, time = 55:46, pace @ 10:56
I think I need to change my running routes again. I'm starting to feel like those weeks last month where I'm bored and unmotivated in the first two miles of the run before I can feel normal about running again.

      Wednesday, February 22, 2012

      Week 8: Day 3 - 2012

      cardio:
      • bike ride (@ 10:15am) = 3 miles
      • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
Didn't work out yesterday. Just wasn't feeling it, but hopefully, I'll feel better about running tomorrow!

      Sunday, February 19, 2012

      Week 7: Day 7 - 2012

      cardio:
      • trail/road run (@ 6:30am) = 6.17 miles, time = 1:07:56, pace @ 11:01
      Total Weekly Mileage: 19.97
      Total Monthly Mileage: 44.68
      Total Yearly Mileage: 132.26
      Total Shoe Mileage: 257.51

I think I would have enjoyed the overcast this morning had it been colder, but at least, the air felt/seemed cleaner when it is overcast. I'm not sure if it's going to rain today, but if it is, I'm glad that it didn't happen during my run!

      Saturday, February 18, 2012

      Week 7: Day 6 - 2012

      cardio:
      • bike ride (@ 9am) = 3 miles
I didn't get around to doing karate training because I had another obligation at the same time. But at least, I got some kind of work out in today, as light and easy as it was.

      Friday, February 17, 2012

      Week 7: Day 5 - 2012

      cardio:
      • trail/road run (@ 6:30am) = 5.23 miles, time = 54:58, pace @ 10:31
I almost didn't want to run this morning. I felt lazy and wanted to go back to sleep, but I felt better once I got out and started running. Good thing it was just laziness and not tiredness.

      Thursday, February 16, 2012

      Week 7: Day 4 - 2012

      cardio:
      • trail/road run (@ 6:30am) = 5.27 miles, time = 56:03, pace @ 10:38
I liked how it was so cold this morning and the wind wasn't that bad either! It was sorta distracting and annoying that my breath kept blowing in my face.

      Wednesday, February 15, 2012

      Week7: Day 3 - 2012

      cardio:
      • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
It'll be super cold in the morning. Great running weather for me! It's suppose to be windy tomorrow also, but hopefully, it won't be that bad when I head out for my run. I'm also glad that I don't have to run in the rain tomorrow or Friday and all that was done today!

      Tuesday, February 14, 2012

      Week 7: Day 2 - 2012

      cardio:
      • hilly trail run (@ 6:20am) = 1.1 miles, time = 13:54, pace @ 12:38
        • warm up = 1.1 miles
        • cool down = 1.1 miles
I decided to do my hill run today instead of later in the week, just because I felt like it. I enjoyed the weather this morning.

      Monday, February 13, 2012

      Week 7: Day 1 - 2012

      cardio:
      • bike ride (@ 10:15am) = 3 miles
      • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
It was so windy today! Luckily, it wasn't that bad when I was out riding my bike, but it seemed worse afterwards. There is no wind now and I hope it stays that way until after I do my run tomorrow morning. It also feels so cold and nice out now. So COLD and no wind, I think I'm going to enjoy that for my morning run.

      Sunday, February 12, 2012

      Week 6: Day 7 - 2012

      cardio:
      • trail/road run (@ 1:20pm) = 4.46 miles, time = 45:11, pace @ 10:085
      Total Weekly Mileage: 9.31
      Total Monthly Mileage: 24.71
      Total Yearly Mileage: 112.29
      Total Shoe Mileage: 237.44

I almost didn't run at all today. It was somewhat raining this morning when I woke up and I decided that I didn't want to run in the rain because I didn't want to get sick. I didn't want to test my immune system. This was also the first time in a long while since I ran later in the day. I usually have a hard time getting out for a run if it was past a certain time (after 10am) because I usually find some excuse not to run and usually laziness kicks in since I'm always running alone. I feel like I want to reward myself with an In-N-Out burger or somethng!

I'm also noticing that I'm running faster. I don't feel like I am, so I have hard time believing that I am. I stopped taking Vitamin B complex last weekend. That used to work in the beginning when I started taking them and I felt faster, but perhaps it lost its effectiveness and I probably need to take a break from them because I've been taking them for so long. Fine, if that's all it takes for me to run faster!

      Saturday, February 11, 2012

      Week 6: Day 6 - 2012

      cardio:

      • karate (@ 12pm) = 2 hours
I hope I sleep ok tonight. I didn't sleep well enough on Thursday night and couldn't get myself out for a run yesterday morning.

      Thursday, February 9, 2012

      Week 6: Day 4 - 2012

      cardio:
      • trail/road run (@ 6:20am) = 4.85 miles, time = 49:33, pace @ 10:13
I only missed one run this week. I decided that I'd miss out on my hill run which was short to begin with, so it wouldn't affect my endurance. I didn't feel like I had a runner's high, but I felt unusually happy during my run this morning. Maybe that helped with my speed, though I didn't feel like I ran faster than I actually did. I like happy runs.

        Wednesday, February 8, 2012

        Week 6: Day 3 - 2012

        cardio:
        • bike ride (@ 10am) = 3 miles
        • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
It's starting to get lighter earlier. Does this mean that I get to go run at 6:10am now instead of at 6:25am? I don't like running in the dark. I like to see my surroundings better when there is some light, more than just street lights.

        Monday, February 6, 2012

        Week 6: Day 1 - 2012

        cardio:
        • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
I heard that it would rain tomorrw. I'm not sure if it will be in the morning or later. Since I don't run in the rain, perhaps I should make it into an unscheduled rest day. I've kept telling myself these last several weeks that I need an unscheduled rest day or rest week anyway, so I should take it.

        Sunday, February 5, 2012

        Week 5: Day 7 - 2012

        cardio:
        • trail/road run (@ 6:30am) = 6.6 mile, time = 1:11:34, pace @ 10:51
        Total Weekly Mileage: 20.29
        Total January Mileage: 81.49
        Total February Mileage: 15.40
        Total Yearly Mileage: 96.89
        Total Shoe Mileage: 222.04

I slept normal last night and I felt good running this morning. I was also somewhat worried that it would be windy this morning because it was unexpectedly super windy yesterday morning. There was slight wind this morning, but it didn't bother me. I also had minor shin splints last night from walking around, but I didn't have that problem this morning. My mild shin splints seem to come and go whenever.

So, I decided to run on this route this morning. Between mile 2.9 and mile 3.3, there was challenging enough uphill. It was challenging enough that I thought I would want to take a break at some point of the hill or even at the top of the hill. I powered through without stopping or slowing down to a walk. I felt so accomplished, happy, and like I had a runner's high that I didn't want to stop for a rest or walk, and I kept running. I hadn't done this route in a long time and the last few times that I did, I had to break during the uphill because I had a hard time with it and didn't have enough endurance to keep running.

I thought I would take a break from running this following week. I'm not sure now because I feel like I still want to run. I think I'll just keep running until I really get bored and my motivation crashes.

        Week 5: Day 6 - 2012

        cardio:
        • bike ride (@ 10am) = 3 miles
        • karate (@ 12pm) = 1 hour
I slept normal last night! Hope tonight is the same so I can run normal tomorrow morning!

It's not windy this afternoon, but it was so windy this morning! I hope it's not windy tomorrow morning. I don't like to run when it's so windy.

        Friday, February 3, 2012

        Week 5: Day 5 - 2012

        cardio:
        • hilly trail (@ 6:30am) = 1.1 miles
          • warm up = 1.1 mile
          • cool down = 1.1 mile
I don't know what happened to me, I couldn't sleep until after midnight last night. I woke up feeling tired and not really in the mood to run. I decided that I'd feel better if I just ran because it would be short. At the end of my warm up, I thought about just skipping the hill run and just turn around (2.2 miles round trip), calling that a run. I decided against that and ran the hills. Should have listened to myself because I felt worse. I barely made it past the most challenging part of the trail/hills (near the beginning) when I stopped for a break because I felt so unhappy and really unmotivated. I hadn't done that in a long time, taking a break near the beginning on the most challenging part of the run. I sorta felt a little better after the short break and kept running the rest of the trail/run, but I took another break at the halfway point before finishing my run. I hope that this bad mood was just from lack of sleep, and I hope to sleep better tomorrow night so I can run normally on Sunday morning. I'm wide awake now and don't feel the need to rest or go back to sleep.

I did time my hill run, but I'm not sure if I even recorded it right after starting/stopping my stopwatch. It says that my run was faster than past hill runs, but I don't believe it, so I'm just going to record my run distance and not the finish time.

        Thursday, February 2, 2012

        Week 5: Day 4 - 2012

        cardio:
        • trail/road run (@ 6:30am) = 5.5 miles, time = 1:00:05, pace @ 10:55
I didn't expect fog this morning. My laziness was kicking in at the sight of fog and I wanted to go back to bed! I told myself that I would feel better if I went out for a run and I'd get over my laziness. The fog was dense enough that I couldn't see 500 feet in front of me, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Around mile 2.5, I got concerned that it would rain on me. I felt some water drops fall on me, but that was from running under trees. At that point, I had an option of changing my route...I thought about sticking to my original distance (5.5 miles) or cutting it short, making it a mile less. I decided that the water drops I felt came from the trees because I felt nothing in open areas, so I stuck to my original plan/distance. I felt better and relieved for making that decision after a few minutes because the fog got thinner and the sky got brighter.

I also decided that I don't want to run the L.A.-Chinatown Firecracker 10K race next weekend (Feb. 12). For now, I think I fixed my boredom and lack of motivation. I think I just needed to change my running route and distance (adding more miles). It seemed that was all I needed to do because I feel normal again with running.

        Week 5: Day 3 -2012

        cardio:
        • bike ride (@ 10:15am) = 3 miles
        • karate (@ 7pm) = 1 hour
I like running in cold temperatures with a sunny sky. Will it be cold in the morning? I guess I will have to find out in the morning.
