Week 5: Day 5

cardio:
  • trail run (@ 7am) = 2.37 miles
strength training (upper body + abs/back): (@8am)
  • chair dips = 2 sets x 15 reps
  • elevated "regular" push ups = 1 set x 10 reps
  • bicep curls on bosu ball = 2 sets x 15 reps x 15lbs
  • wrist curls = 2 sets x 15 reps x 15lbs
  • elevated "wide" push ups = 1 set x 10 reps
  • meet in the middle on bosu ball = 2 sets x 20 reps
  • jack knives = 2 sets x 20 reps
  • alternating lateral raises = 2 sets x 15 reps x 40lbs
  • lat pulldowns = 2 sets x 15 reps x 85lbs
  • back extensions = 2 sets x 15 reps x 95lbs
  • alternating reverse curls = 2 sets x 15 reps x 45lbs
  • hanging leg raises = 2 sets x 20 reps
  • seated rows = 2 sets x 15 reps x 117lbs
I know how long it took me to run 2.37 miles, however, I don't like the finish time and average pace. I went running with my high energy dog. For some reason, running with this dog makes me run slower and feel more tired than I should, even though she runs faster than she should. I think it's because I'm so concerned about controlling her speed and trying to pace myself that it's making me uptight or something. When I run alone, I'm quite ok and don't run disappointedly slow. I'd like to run with this dog because she needs to drain most of her energy (she's a high energy dog) and it's nice to have have company during a run. It's a win-win situation, you know, but I just don't like the idea of running slower when there's no reason for it. My dog can keep up with me if I run faster, but I'm apparently being so controlling of her pace and am afraid that she will develop some kind of running problems from overambitious running that it's messing up my own.

  1. Is the "Meet in the middle" on a Bosu Ball a situp/crunch type of exercise? You must some nice runs with that dog. Are you working out at a gym, or at home?
