Week 19: Day 2 - May 09, 2017

  • easy RUN with one dog = 5.42 miles; time = 1:03:03; average time = 11:38
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.6 miles
I ran in partially cloudy sky this morning. I was glad for that because it got really overcast (no rain) later in the morning. I'll tolerate overcast because it is better than hot and humid, but I like clear (or almost clear) sky and cold temperature when I run.

Week 19: Day 1 - May 08, 2017

  • easy walk with dogs = 2.6 miles total
  • group hike = 6.55 miles
Didn't do a bike ride today, but I did a hike with a cycling group from meetup. Must have been a good hike because I am tired and sleepy now! Tomorrow, I'm off to do a run in the morning. I hope my motivation doesn't crash like last week.

Week 18: Day 7 - May 07, 2017

  • easy trail RUN (solo) = 5.51 miles; time = 1:03:59; average pace @ 11:37
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.7 miles
Running:
Total Weekly Mileage: 18.29
Total Monthly Mileage: 18.29
Total Yearly Mileage: 349.35
Total Shoe Mileage: 372.62

Cycling:
Total Weekly Mileage: 32.34
Total Monthly Mileage: 32.34
Total Yearly Mileage: 847.99

I did my run alone this morning. I thought that it would be raining all morning. I checked the weather forecast this morning before I headed out and it said that the rain would start at 6am (even though it had already been raining all night for a few hours). I think I read that wrong because I headed out for a run at 6am and it stopped raining completely. Oh well, my dog could use a rest day anyway. It got a little windy during the second half of the run.

My bike is still out of commission and disabled. However, tomorrow calls for slight chance of rain. I think I would have been okay riding in 20% of rain, although an overcast, gloomy sky makes it harder for me to ride because it makes me want to sleep in. I struggle just to do a four mile run and that takes less time than riding. After this week, I won't be riding to work anymore. My boss is having me to show up to work at 7am. I really cannot handle waking up at 3:45am. It was already really hard to wake up at 4:15am just to be at work by 7:30am (I start at 7:30am and show up at 7am...I have to give myself time to get a flat on the way, as a just in case, and to get dressed/ready when I get to work). So even if my bike is up and running, and doing just fine, I'm now really limited on free time or I have to give up running just to ride. I'm not so sure about giving up running since I have been running for over 20 years (vs three years on and off for cycling) and it is still my preferred activity.

Week 18: Day 5 - May 05, 2017

  • easy RUN with one dog = 5.03 mile; time = 59:33; average pace @ 11:50
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.6 miles
My bike is still "disabled" so no riding today. There will be a slight chance of rain tomorrow and Sunday, so I guess it doesn't matter if my bike is down or not. I don't like to ride in the rain, not even a little drizzle..not that running in the rain is any better or any different.

Week 18: Day 3 - May 03, 2017

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 4.46 miles; time = 53:21; average pace @ 11:58
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.6 miles
I felt so much better running this morning. I don't know what happened yesterday. Also, my knee is feeling a lot better. A little achy, but no soreness or pain.

Week 18: Day 2 - May 02, 2017

  • easy trail RUN with one dog = 3.29 miles; time = 43:33; average pace @ 13:14
  • easy WALK with three dogs = 2.6 miles
It was a good thing that I chose to do a short easy run, despite my scraped knee. My knee was sore and hurting at the beginning of the run, but felt totally good during the last mile. However, I think my motivation crashed. I also think that the weather didn't help either. My feet didn't feel like heavy lead, but they were "dragging" along. I couldn't get into the run. My breathing was out of whack the entire run. This is usually a good indication for me that I don't have much motivation to run on. I don't know what I am doing tomorrow morning. I want to run, but I don't want to because I need a break and catch up on sleep. Last Tuesday, I had the same problem with running, but felt good to run the next day.

Week 18: Day 1 - May 01, 2017

  • bike commute to work/home = 32.34 miles total; time = 2:38:03; average speed @ 12.3 mph
    • commuting to work = 18.55 miles
    • commuting to home (almost) = 13.49 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.5 miles
  • group hike = 4.58 miles
I was doing so well commuting/riding to work and back home...until I fell off my bike five miles from home. (I've become a professional at falling off my bike and getting flats.) I didn't have a choice to walk my bike home from there because the back derailleur came apart. I'm sure the fall was part of the reason, but it was really random. After I fell, I got back on my bike and rode one mile. Then my bike broke down. I don't have a choice to take it into a bike shop, but that will have to wait a few days. My ego is bruised and I'm a little sore, but I'm fine. I went on a hike this evening anyway with my cycling group.

I'm not sure how I will feel tomorrow morning. I may not do a run, or I may do a short, easy run.
