Week 19: Day 4 - 2014

  • easy RUN (non-stop) with one dog = 2.04 miles, time = 22:09; pace @ 10:51
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.5 miles

Today was the first time that I ran with my dog for more than 1.4 miles. We ran for two miles without stopping and she did pretty good. Maybe I'll train her to run six miles with me so I can do a 10K run/race with her in the future. I have nine months to train her until the Chinatown L.A. Firecracker race next February. I think I can do it. Patience is virtue!

Week 19: Day 3 - 2014

  • easy walk with dogs = 1 mile
  • easy walk to Panera Bread (for a knitting group) = 1.5 miles one way or 3 miles round trip

I generally don't like to walk for exercise. I think it helps to have dogs because they need exercise. Otherwise, I need a purpose like going somewhere to do something if I'm going to walk more than a few feet.

Week 19: Day 2 - 2014

  • easy RUN with one dog = 1.35 miles, time = 15:15, pace @ 11:18
  • easy WALK with dogs = 1.7 miles

I thought about riding my bike to work today because the weather was nice and cool, but changed my mind because it's far. Fifteen miles one way and thirty miles round trip. I'm just not ready for thirty miles right now. Maybe I am and I'm just being lazy about it. I got off late from work and about the time that I got home (it took me thirty minutes which included rush hour traffic), it started to rain a little bit. I don't think I want to ride in the rain, especially when there plenty of aggressive/bad drivers out there. It would have taken me at least an hour and 15 minutes to ride home.

Week 19: Day 1 - 2014

  • easy bike ride = 14 miles
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.4 miles

I went on a group bike ride with a bike meetup group this morning. I'm not sore from the ride...that's weird, but maybe I'll feel it tomorrow morning. I think if I want to get into the habit of riding at least once a week, I have to make myself ride with a group. It seems easier for me to ride at all since I will have company. Riding alone is boring. There is another easy group ride this coming weekend. I haven't decided if I'll join the ride yet. It depends on how late I'm working on the night before.

Week 18: Day 7 - 2014

  • easy road run with one dog = 1.33 miles, time = 14:40, pace @ 11:02
  • easy walk with dogs = 1.3 miles

Total Weekly Mileage: 14.16
Total Monlthy (April) Mileage: 56.02
Total Monthly (May) Mileage: 9.41
Total Yearly Mileage: 170.48
Total Shoe Mileage: 41.59

Tomorrow, I'm meeting up with a bicycle meetup group and we're riding for 18.5 miles. I haven't rode a long distance since the bike event in February. I'm nervous, but I think I'll be fine.

Week 18: Day 5 - 2014

  • trail/road run (solo) = 4.78 miles, time = 56:59, pace @ 11:55
  • easy walk with dogs  = 1.5 miles

I ran slower than I expected this morning. I actually felt good, like there was nothing wrong and I ran continuously. Even though the sun was slowly rising during my run and it was slightly warmer than I'd like, my run was mostly in the shade (trees and hills blocking the sun...I didn't run on any challengin hills) so I didn't feel hot.

Week 18: Day 4 - 2014

  • hilly trail run with one dog = 1.1 mile
    • "warm up" = 1.1 mile
    • "cool down" = 1.1 mile
  • easy walk with dogs = 1 mile

I decided to go run on a challenging hilly trail this morning. I haven't done any hill training since January or February. It was not really a good idea doing a hilly trail run on the day after returning to cycling. I wasn't sore from cycling, but the hills made my quads more fatigue! I think I have to add some "easier" runs or rest in between cycling and challenging hills until I can get used to one or the other or both. My dog, Jubee did just fine. While I was struggling to run up the steep incline, she was basically walking up the inclines like no big deal.
