The "Finish The Ride" (and "Finish The Run") has finally announced their new event date, to be held on Sunday, 01 May 2022! I signed up for the event in October 2019 and paid for the 35 mile ride. In February 2022, I requested to change my ride from 35 miles (2,300 feet in total elevation) to 50 miles (3,500 feet in total elevation) to which they said yes to. It was supposed to have happened April 2020, but Covid had other plans for the world and the event was rescheduled to September 2020. It got canceled and the event organizer was never able to secure a permit in 2021. I spent two years training and waited patiently, and it's finally here.

So I did a practice ride today to get familiar with the route. It was supposed to be 50 miles, but I had to cut it short and did 43 miles instead. When I got to the end of the L.A. River bike trail and started my way to Elysian Park, I didn't get very far. Road conditions were poor (somewhat an issue, but not really), a few cars were out (not an issue), but there were a lot of homelessness and sketchy looking people. There was probably nothing to be afraid of and I would have been fine, but I was scared for my safety, so I turned around and went back to my car. I will do this ride again, but only with others. I don't think I will do this alone again.

My legs and feet were achy this morning. I think it's safe to assume that it's time for new shoes. Luckily, I bought three pairs of new running shoes last year and I have one pair left to use.
